Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works Works every time. Just follow the instructions. Don't 'spray and pray'

Rated 2 out of 5 by from I got weeds from this Bought this at the start of spring for overseeding and to build up some dead spots from winter burn. I noticed that I ended up getting clover and crab grass growing from the spots where the seed was placed. I prefer the Vigoro seed better. Never had any issue there.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Low success rate Very low success rate planting. Mixed it with soil and used the mix to cover dark patches, kept it wet, but did not grow, very dissatisfied.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Well organized during COVID Grass seed is really good and grew great. But it was the service I received during the COVID a lockdown that was amazing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I give credit where credit is due. Is it my lawn or is it Scott’s grass seed that grows sporadically and not evenly? In some place it grows really well and quick, in other spots it just doesn’t grow at all, in spite of the same soil, fertilizer and grass seeds! A big question mark?

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Poor germination. Found that it didn’t germinate very well. I put it down like a light snow and covered with new top soil. Lots of large bare spots.

What is the best Scott’s overseed, fertilizer and soil recommended for Northern Ontario lawns? The builder lawn is 3 yrs old and needs thickening plus fewer clover weeds.

Asked by: NickL
I know this is probably NOT what you want to hear but the best path to a happy lawn is encouraging that clover to grow. Clover is a natural nitrogen fixer. It takes nitrogen from the air and fixes it to the roots...which in turn feeds your lawn. If you have a builders lawn...you need clover to give your grass any chance at all. NOBODY tells you this any more because they want you to buy more grass seed. When the grass is healthy enough the clover will die out on its own...and in the meantime you feed the honey bees.

A couple of questions. 1. What temperatures (in celsius - high and low ) are needed for application of this type of seed. I live in Toronto, Ontario and it is April 25th - is it ideal to use it now 2. Should I mix the seed with topsoil?

Asked by: Anonymous
We appreciate your interest in Scotts Turf Builder Grass Seed Contractor's Mix Sun & Shade. This product is best applied when air temperatures are consistently between 15-29 Celsius with soil temperature consistently between 13-15.5 Celsius. We also recommend using top soil with the seed. The label states the mix contains red fescue, perennial rye and kentucky bluegrass, but a reviewer has stated he had quite a bit of annual rye that germinated, which is a very coarse type of grass. Has anyone else experienced any annual rye in the mix?

Asked by: Steve
Our Scotts Turf Builder Contractors Sun and Shade Mix Grass Seed contains about 30% Brightstar SLT Perennial Rye, and not an annual type of rye. If you have any further questions or would like further assistance, please contact us at 877-220-3089 and one of our representatives would be glad to assist you.

Hello in Montreal, would you suggest fall seeding? just bought a home with neglected lawn.. i would say its 7/10. some shaded ares have flat packed soil and i am curious what to do (real beginner, and i want the greenest lawn on my block) thx :)

Asked by: candice1
For best results Scotts Grass Seed should be applied in the early fall when temperatures are consistently between 15.5- 29.5 Celsius. If temperatures are dropping low at night the seed will not germinate. We would not recommend seeding after October 1st. If you have any additional questions, please call 877-220-3089.
