Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not quick. Not thick. Poor product We put down new soil in the back yard where the lawn had not been growing after a pool was removed. The area was 21' x 39' so 812 sq ft. I decided to use this Quick and thick Grass Seed Bluegrass Sun Mix because of the ease of having the fertilizer and grass in one product. This was a mistake. I used the Scotts spreader setting of 12 for new seeding and it took five bags to cover the area. That is pretty bad. The grass started appearing on day 8. This was after constant watering to keep the soil moist as directed. I have continued to water, but the grass is only a little over an inch high and very spotty. I am now needing to purchase more grass seed to fill in all of the bare patches. I dont really think I should need to do this after using so much of the Quick and thick Grass Seed Bluegrass Sun Mix over such a small area. Overall, this product is disappointing. Yes, the existing grass on the borders of the new grass area are dark green so the fertilizer is working. But, there is either very little grass seed in this product or there is a problem with it because coverage is terrible as are the results. I regret buying this and wish I had just gone with a good grass seed to start with rather than this mix

Tried different things Sun, shade, partly sunny, lots of water, multiple spread out waterings, less water, added more seed….never grew much more than a blade or two. Seed just sat there. Bought another brand and grew no problem. Will never purchase Scott branded seed ever again!

Does this mean it's got 12-0-0 fetilizer mixture? Don't new seeds require some phosphorous as well?

Yes, that is correct, however, you don't need anything else. Just spread it in the area you need the grass to grow, and just add some water. I just did it before the rain forecast, and the grass came out after a couple of days.

I am fighting the annual arrival of crab grass and learned (on Google) that Kentucky Bluegrass if seeded in late summer will help to choke off crab grass. The information also stated that the crab grass will not germinate in Spring. True or false?

Crab grass will germinate in the spring unless you have a real thick grass bed. Will take a couple years to get to that point. Plan on having some crab grass spray in the spring. If you plan in the fall you will be good.

The description says this grass contains Kentucky Bluegrass and Ryegrass seeds, but the Scotts website also indicates that this product contains Creeping Red Fescue. Is there a break down of the seed mix by percentage?
