Building a thick, healthy, green lawn starts with Scotts Turf Builder Weed & Feed This natural, pre-emergent weed seed inhibitor contains 100% corn gluten meal to help keep annoying weeds like dandelion and crabgrass from taking root. Corn gluten works by absorbing water needed for new seeds and starving weed seeds of their resources. Plus, corn gluten contains nitrogen that is crucial for helping your existing grass thrive in the areas where weeds could take root. For best results, apply before weeds appear, usually in early Spring and again in late Summer or early fall. Ideal for established perennial ryegrass and Kentucky bluegrass lawns. Because, corn gluten works by dehydrating seeds, we recommend not using on newly seeded lawns or when over-seeding or re-sodding. So hit potential weeds with a one-two punch this year by trying Scotts Turf Builder Weed & Feed.

  1. PREVENTS WEEDS - Contains 100% corn gluten meal, which naturally inhibits weed seed germination of new dandelions and crabgrass
  1. FEEDS LAWNS Natural source of nitrogen helps existing grass thicken and thrive
  1. EASY-TO-USE Simply apply with any Scotts spreader twice a year, in early Spring and late Summer/early Fall after heat stress has passed
  1. FOR BEST RESULTS Use on established lawns with mostly perennial ryegrass and Kentucky bluegrass, avoid using on newly seeded or sodded lawns.
  1. COVERAGE: A 18.2kg (40 lb) package covers up to 186 m2 (2,000 ft2)

Rated 1 out of 5 by from I should have trusted the reviews This product is awful. Other than feed the squirrels, birds, and attracting racoon to my lawn, IT DID NOTHING!! I followed the instructions, applied it and used sprinkler to water it, it rain the next day, and sprinkler was on for 5 days. This product did not dissolve into the soil, in fact it remained in my lawn and eventually disappeared because the animals ate it. I know because the poop they left behind and the holes in my lawn that that racoons dug. Yes I have holes that didn't exist thanks to your product. I bought 2 bags of these in the store, if I didn't use them all up I would even demand a refund! This is ridiculous, what a mess my lawn is now.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Terrible product... believe the reviews I bought this product, followed the instructions exactly and it didnt work at all. The granules dont dissolve whatsoever into the grass despite heavy rain for 2 days. Noticed dandelions growing after applying the product, the product doesnt nearly cover 1,000 sq feet as stated on the product and the instructions on the bag are quire different than what they give you over the phone. The "No Quibble Guarantee" that Scott's offers is full of hoops you have to jump through. Tried contacting them to use the guarantee and they told me to call back after 5 weeks... What a waste of time. Save yourself the hassle, believe the rating and buy something else. This product is flat out terrible

Rated 1 out of 5 by from VERY DISAPPOINTED! I bought this product this week and spread it as directed. I timed it perfectly because we had rain expected in the forecast. We received 2 FULL DAYS of rain. Afterwards, I was actually worried that it was too much rain in too short a time. To my complete surprise, the Scotts Corn Gluten pellets were still completely intact. They are barely soft to the touch. I cannot begin to imagine how long it will take for them to dissolve before they are eaten up by the birds. I guess I won't be able to overseed this Spring. I usually LOVE all of Scotts products, but I am very disappointed with Scotts Weed Prevent Corn Gluten Meal. (The photo attached was taken after 2 full days of rain)

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Won't break down We bought this because we trust Scott's. But like many other people have noted, the pellets won't break down in the grass. We are now on day 5 after having fertilized, the pellets are completely in tact and are still hard. Unlike other people, however, we have no birds coming into our yard to eat them. I actually wish they would just so the pellets would go away because at this point, our dog hasn't been able to go in our backyard. VERY frustrating. We are at the point of having to go into our backyard (which is a 1/4 acre, btw!) and having rake them up just so our dog can go out!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Total junk! I bought this product at Home depot last year with very poor results. Stored the balance in my shed only to find an army of rats living off of it. Bought it again by mistake at Costco last week but thought I would give it another try. Big mistake again. Every squirrel, skunk and crow within 3 miles of our house was chowing down on this so called fertilizer. I'm now out $130 + $ with zero results.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Too Eco Friendly Initially I thought this was a great idea! And in premise it is, but the solution creates too many other problems that are largely undocumented and do not inform the public. I bought a large amount of the product for my new lawn I planted in the fall. It seems to work, not sure how well or how you can even quantify it. Here's my con on the product that needs to be addressed somehow : it is corn based and the dogs love it, they graze on it like cows. Now I know that this is semi-safe and hasn't hurt the pets. but I'd like to point out one more thing, if pets like it, other animals do and this is a grain. If you have mice or other rodents, this is likely to attract them. Attract them near your home. Anyone else see a problem with this. I'd love to hear what the manufacturer has to say about my claims to their product. I have video of little mice running around my yard, we have a lot of mice in the country. I'm not blaming the product, but it certainly doesn't deter them. I can handle the dogs, but the mice. The other con I will point out, is this product is very hard, I live in a rain forest we've had over 50mm in the last few weeks, I still have orange visible granules on my lawn, they are starting to mush out after 3 weeks of rain. The product is advertised to stay active for 6 weeks, but I didn't realize they'd be visible. I won't use this product again.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Unhappy. I scattered the product on my lawn on Monday it is Friday and the pallets are still not dissolves even though we had rain every day. In 5 days a lot of weeds came out already. Why make product that takes 10 days to dissolve. I find it way to expensive and not effective at all. I want my money back. And there is nothing about seeding new seed and how long after should it be done. And a person that sold it to me told me that this is a first step for reseeding but now I have to wait 6 week and it will be way in to mid June. This should be on the package and part of the knowledge of the selles person.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Birds ate most of it once it was down I spread the product down at the end of March before a couple days of rain- for days after birds were eating it all up- not good- waste of money unless you like feeding birds!

When should this product be put down in the Spring?

Asked by: manolid
I put this down as early as possible in the spring.  As soon as the snow has melted I put it on.  Once it dissolves in I will typically add my spring fertilizer (I like the Root-Trients).  There are a lot of negative reviews questioning the effectiveness of the corn gluten based product but I have now used for 3 years and I am pretty satisfied that is help my lawn.  I have minimal or no dandelions each year.  Not that I had a ton before, but I definitely have less.

Is there any point in applying Turf Builder weed preventer now in October while the weeds are still there from the summer? This will be my first time using this product. Previously I used Scotts fall fertilizer.

Asked by: Don R
This is definitely the period for the Fall Fertilizer. The weed preventer should be used earlier in the year. I use both products but also spot treat broadleaf weeds with Scott's Weed B Gon during the summer months. There are great resources on the Scotts Canada site for eliminating confusion around lawn care: https://www.scotts.com/en-ca/scotts-3-feed-program

What is the correct sequence for lawn spring care if I use this weed prevent product: Areation - -> Fertilizer with turf builder --(then after 1 week later) --> apply this weed prevent product. Is this procedure correct? Thanks.

Asked by: puzzle
No. you will burn your lawn. The weed prevent is heavy in nitrogen, thus it is also your spring fertilizer. I have used for years, no where near as good as the banned chemicals but does help. Key is to get it on early, I treat lawn as soon as snow almost gone, then again 6 + weeks later. If you apply to late it is useless as a weed prevent, second application is not in instructions but I find necessary to reduce weeds. Aeration important, I usually do when the ground drys out and firm.

How long can pets play on the grass after application?

Asked by: Russ
Pets such as cats and dogs should be removed from the area before applying Scotts Turf Builder Weed & Feed. Application area can be reentered immediately after application. This product is made from 100% corn (corn meal/corn gluten) so there is no concern regarding pet/animal exposure.

When can I mow after applying? Applied the product two weeks ago. Realize it takes 5 weeks to break down. Should I wait the full 5 weeks or can I mow sooner? Is mulching an option? Concerned that mowing will vacuum up the remaining product,

Asked by: manolid
Go ahead and mow, do not use a bagger, mulching okay, set the height at 3 inches or more
