Rated 2 out of 5 by from Great idea, design leaves something to be desired I've used this product for four years. I don't know if it has been improved, but my model clogs easily, seems underpowered with four AA batteries and has a battery compartment held together with a tiny Phillips head screw that is easy to lose. I've managed to overcome these over years of trial and error but it can be frustrating. Let me say this before getting into it - I have never used anything but Scotts fertilizers in this device, so any clogs that I speak of can't be blamed on someone else's fertilizer. I use it four times a year, 20 minutes per, use fresh batteries every time, and I remove the batteries after each use. I've learned not to fill the reservoir more than 1/3 at a time. Too much - more than half - and it seems to clog as I use it. I carry an 8 oz. grocery store mushroom cup filled with fertilizer to refill as I go, but I make at least 8-10 trips back to the bag when fertilizing the lawn. It's smart to clean out the rotary device at that point because even with a small bit of fertilizer left in the reservoir it can and often will clog mid-pass. You would think it would have the energy to keep going but it doesn't. You need patience to work with this device. As far as the battery compartment I would have thought that Velcro or a slide-and-snap device would be a better closure than the small screw, which, if lost, well... When adding/pulling batteries I just unscrew it, put the screw in a safe place, put in the batteries and strap it down securely with duct tape. When I'm done I pull the batteries so they won't go bad until I use it again and replace the screw until the next use. I don't know why I even bother with the screw anymore. Using this device is like using an old car that hiccups between gear shifts but you've learned its idiosyncrasies and can compensate as you go along. I hope it has been improved but, if not, I'm not sure I would buy it again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Wizz is just that! I’ve used mine all summer. It works great. I like almost better than my drop spreader. This is a real winner. I had the older crank model. Battery operation is the way to go. You won’t be disappointed.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Product not working. Motor stops and starts. Bought the product if you want to go and use it once. It was OK the first time. Second time however having trouble with the motor. It stops and starts. Checked the batteries and they’re OK.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Great Product When It Works I bought the Wizz and it worked great, but it doesn't last long. I have bought 5 of them.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Didn’t hold up Love the concept. I used it one summer and by the end of the summer it would t last more than a minute with fresh batteries. It is extremely under powered my the four AA batteries. I tossed it and got a traditional spreader again. Everyone I did use it I put in fresh premium lithium batteries to get it to function.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Doesn't work after one year - with new batteries My general advice is to not buy stuff that requires batteries when it could be done by hand. This has been an unreliable product - would never buy again.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Easy to use but uses more than setting says We purchased our retirement home and it has a very small backyard (1000 sq ft). The Wizz called out a setting of 3 3/4 and the bag, also Scotts, called out 2 lbs per 1000 sq ft. As a test, I measured out 2 lbs and spread it. It actually took 3 1/4 lb to do my backyard. I like the ease of use but believe Scotts should do more work to at least get the calibration close.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Better Than I Expected I was a little reluctant to buy an electrical spreader, but I did anyway. Got it and tried it out the same day. The first thing I noticed is fertilizer goes out fast and you have to move fast. Good news is I finished my yard in a couple minutes with perfect spreading. Cleaning was very easy, just hose it down. Very pleased with this spreader. Should have bought one a long time age.
