Rated 1 out of 5 by from Leaving pepper in water. Maintenance supervisor at apartment complex and used hundreds of the supply lines on hotwater heaters. Have gotten numerous complaints about pepper in the water. All have been the push supply lines. Do not buy!!!. Been using the 3/4 male push fittings with a high pressure 3/4 supply hoses with no push fittings. Problem solved.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Failed after 9 months We installed a new water heater and the plumber used the sharkbite quick connectors. We needed to turn the temperature up on the water heater to 140° so that it would flow through the house. The shark bite connection then began to fail and sent small rubber pieces throughout the water system. We replaced both of the shark bites with straight copper connections.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Failed within a year, rubber specs in water Our plumber used these to install the new water heater from HD. We had to turn up the water heater to setting “B” (140 degrees) as we use a recirculating line (no pump) and the sharkbite fitting failed with rubber specs appearing in the tub and elsewhere. The cold water line was fine, it was the hot water line. We replaced them with copper flex lines. See photos.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Leaked Of all the SharkBite fittings I have used over the years this was the only one that ever leaked. It took it two days on the hot side before I noticed it weeping ever so slightly at the push on side. Returned it to HD for a new one and it worked perfectly. It may have been operator error but I have noticed the push on fittings are much more difficult to seat and a terror to remove even with the crimp type SharkBite special tool. Using the orange donut to unseat and reuse is nearly impossible. When SharkBite first came out they seated easily and were not difficult to unseat. I spoke to a contractor friend and he has had the same experience seating and unseating the push on fittings.

Can these be used on a natural gas water heater?

Asked by: John
To my knowledge they can be used with a gas water heater as long as you make sure they are clear of the flu. I used them on an electric water heater installation and they work fine so far; they simplified the installation process considerably. There are many online Sharkbite tutorials with helpful videos out there.
