Overview

Model # A23 Store SKU # 1000180623

Not only do angles make joints stronger, they also provide more consistent, straight corners. Simpson Strong-Tie offers a wide variety of angles in various sizes and thicknesses to handle light-duty jobs or projects where a structural connection is needed. Some can be bent (skewed) to match the project. For outdoor projects or those where moisture is present, use our ZMAX zinc-coated connectors, which provide extra resistance against corrosion (look for a "Z" at the end of the model number).

  1. Versatile connector for various 90° connections and home repair projects
  1. Stronger than angled nailing or screw fastening alone
  1. Help ensure joints are consistently straight and strong
  1. Made from 18-gauge steel
  1. Galvanized (G90) for extra corrosion resistance
  1. Install with 10d x 1-1/2 in. nails or #9 x 1-1/2 in. Strong-Drive SD screws

Would this work well on a deck with 4x4 PT posts and 2x4 PT for framing of the railing? I don't want to use nails or just screws to attach the 2x4s to the 4x4s, as it doesn't seem rigid enough.
Asked by: Joe
Yes, they work really well on decks and railing work, also any framing project, you will have a much neater project less mistakes, save time, and the project will be stable.

I know they are short but besides the length, are these sturdy enough to use as shelf brackets? Are they strong to hold something or will they bend or break in half?
Asked by: Kris10
I use then for narrow shelves in the back of my cupboards for a single row of cans or spices without a problem.

For securing joist blocking and reinforcing 2x4 stud connections in an older home, what is the effective difference between the A23 and the A34? It looks like either would work; they look functionally almost identical.
Asked by: Werhat
There is no difference in application or function, other than fasteners and allowable loads are a little different. The A34 is 1 716” x 1 7/16” x 2½” long and is cookie-cut to save material, whereas the A23 is 2” x 1½” x 2¾” and not cookie cut. So the A34 would be more economical since it has less steel. For applications where the connector will be visible, people tend to go towards the A23 for the cleaner look with the square edges. Thank you!

How much weight can this support?

Asked by: Im2tata
When attached to Douglas Fir or Southern Pine, the A23 has an allowable load of 680 lbs. in the F1 direction and 535 lbs. in the F2 direction (use 0.86 x DF/SP allowable loads for Spruce-Pine-Fir or Hem Fir); please see our website or current Wood Construction Connectors catalog for complete information. Thank you!

Will these act as hurricane clips for insurance purposes ??? I have an open flat roof car port with roof joists toe nailed to top plate. The building inspector recommend hurricane clips. I could easily install them in the space I have.
Asked by: SEagull
It's not hurricane grade. As for the open car port. It being open make it easier for it to be destroyed/swept away by the force.
