Rated 1 out of 5 by from They Do Not Work! The product is designed to fit a nominal 4x4 post that is 3-3/4" square. The posts I have and every post I've seen are 3-1/2". The 1/4" difference will not allow the plate to fit between the wooden post and the concrete. I tried pounding it down with an 8lb sledge hammer and no matter what, it will not go in. Bought 10 of these and will be returning 9 of them. What a waste of time and money.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Adds stability, installs easily. These will work to shore up for fence posts if the wood has being to rot between the concrete base. You'll likely want to straighten any crooked posts first, then install these. Consider which side(s) you will place them in - front, back, left or right. Strongly recommend using a small sledge vs nail hammer to instal. Make sure you have some coated deck screws if installing in pressure treated lumber.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Too narrow for 4x4 posts Although the product description states that these fit 4x4 post, they do not. They are actually significantly narrower than 4 inches. I had thought of chiselling some wood off of the sides of my posts to fit these, but that would of course only be feasible above the posts' concrete base. Therefore, these had to be returned.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great fast way to fix fence posts This worked great to repair broken rotted fence posts. Easy to install depending on the way the posts were installed. This device need a small space between the concrete and post to work properly. If the space is too tight you may need to use a chisel to break the concrete away to make a space. Super sturdy once installed.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Touch up needed The product performs as expected for holding up the fence posts. However, I recommend that you buy black paint at the same time you buy this product so that you can touch up the places where the paint gets chipped off when you hammer in the plate. The spots rust otherwise.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Cool, works quite well and easy installation Easy to install, just need to be sure you have access to both sides of the fence post. Also need deck screws and a sledge hammer. It does a good job providing additional support to the post without having to tear down the fence, dig a hole, pour concrete, set the new post, then rebuild the fence! Huge time and cost savings with a quick repair job under $50. It may not last as long as the proper rebuild (time will tell) but it will help to keep the fence from falling over for at least a while!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not for a 4X4 post Ez-Mender is designed for 4X4 wood posts but measures up at 3 3/4" wide. All the pressure treated posts I measured are 4 1/8" wide. This mean not only do you have to fight to get the ez mender down into the ground, you have to bend it onto to the post. I see no point in using this product as the amount bending and forming of meta will be counterproductive to the end goal. Returned for refund.

Do need one or two to do the job

Asked by: Maxwell
I have used only one for each fence posts as the pists abutted a retaining wall.  I probably would have gone with two otherwise

The post I am trying to fix is exactly 4.0" x 4.0" in dimensions and not 3.5 x 3.5. If I can manage to shave off 1/4" on each side of the post above ground to fit the mender, would I be able to pond the mender into the concrete surrounding below?

Asked by: WL18
Probably not. The true dimension 4x4" post would be set in the concrete below grade so once the mender got below the point you shaved it more than likely won't fit as the post will still be 4". wide

Is this item a FLAT piece of metal, as in one picture, or are there flanges at the top that go round 3 sides of a 4x4 post, as in second picture? Pls advise screw size to use also.

Asked by: CCSS
The metal is flat, the width of your 4 x 4 post however there’s tiny sides that will align to the sides of the post that can be screwed in. The bulk of the weight of the post will be on the flat side, which is heavily screwed in.  The magic of these bars is that they are banged into the 4 x 4 hole in the concrete, where your wooden 4 x 4 has rotted so that your pole is now supported both above and below ground. I have used the successfully on my 35-year-old fence in multiple sections

Is the E-Z Mender designed to drive into the concrete footing?

No. Soil only

My posts are barely 3.5" square, some measure 3 3/8". The post rotted away at ground level and down an inch or two. The cement is in perfect (strong) condition. The width of this product is 3.8". Will they work?

Asked by: Ricky
It should... I had the exact scenario and as long as you sink them to the recommended depth, they should work well to hold the post up.

Can i use this with a 4by4 post thats 8ft tall to hang string lights?

Asked by: Dylan
Hello Dylan, this is Stacy with Simpson Strong-Tie. The E-Z Mender does not provide adequate resistance to prevent rotation about the base and therefore are not recommended for non-top-supported installations such as fences or unbraced carports. I would not recommend this product for your application. If you have any questions please call us at (800) 999-5099. We look forward to hearing from you.
