Can These be used with treated lumber?

Can These be used with treated lumber?
Asked by: JustWondering
Hi Chris, this is Colin with Simpson Strong-Tie. This product was intended for exterior applications in contact with most treated lumber formulations. It is galvanized per ASTM A653 G185 and provides a "medium" level of corrosion protection. Some treated wood formulations and retention levels require a "high" level of protection (Type 316 Stainless Steel), so refer to the treatment company's recommendations for connectors and fasteners used with their formulations. More information is available at strongtie.com/corrosion.

I want to tie two 2x6 pressure treated boards together on the long 2-inch side. How far apart should I space the ties?

Asked by: Eugene
We can point you to the allowable load tables for the HTP37Z Tie Plate (https://www.strongtie.com/straightstraps_strapsandties/htp_plate/p/htp), but it would be up to the Designer/Engineer of Record to determine how many ties are needed and at what spacing to resist the demand loads for the specific application. Thank you!

I need to reinforce some old timberframe joints in a building. Will I need to drill pilot holes first, or just drive the screws?
Asked by: SPL
The HTP37Z is installed with the SD9112 structural connector screws; these screws do not require predrilling. Thank you!

How many #9 screws do I need to tie two 11/2 x 6 joists ? Fill all the holes?
Asked by: Chris
Personally, I would use 4 screws on each half, 8 total per bracket. Check with your local permit office to see what they would require for an inspection.

I tried the recommended screw: Simpson Strong-Tie #9 1-1/2 in. External Hex Flange Hex-Head Structural-Connector Screw, and it seemed too big to get through the small hole. The #6 went through but #7 and #8 required threading through the hole. Can Simpson assure me that #9 is the right size?
Asked by: Dufous
I used #9 1/12 as screws and they worked great.

I think I just used 1/4" carriage bolts. If the holes are a mite small, the carriage bolts will spread them a tad
