I ordered this product expecting 'Calcium Chloride Crystals' which is what it says on the bottle in large print. The small print that you can't read in the online picture says 'with enhanced extenders'. Turns out this means a lot of sodium chloride (salt) which is exactly what I didn't want. I returned it and bought another brand that is 100% calcium chloride.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not all calcium chloride. Mixed with with plain salt. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I was disappointed when I received this product. I didn't buy it at the store because they were out, so I got it delivered. I would not have gotten it if I'd seen it in person. Turns out to be heavily mixed with rock salt (Sodium Chloride, NaCl). I had to confirm this for myself by going to Snow Joe's web site. And there, under the FAQ for this product is the following quote: " MELT Calcium Chloride Crystals contain the strongest and most effective materials for melting ice and snow in the industry. The active ingredients are as follows: ACTIVE INGREDIENTS: Sodium Chloride CAS No. 7647-14-5 Calcium Chloride CAS No. 10043-52-4 " So in summary, I think this is a poor name for this product. The product will do the job, sure, since the CaCl2 that is in the product will get things going. NaCl is fine and very useful for melting too (at higher temperatures). It is just that the name of the product is confusing because there are other products on the market that are primarily CaCl2. Use the "zoom" feature of your mouse pointer to look at the product picture. You'll see the ratio clearly. I'll admit that much, SnowJoe has good pictures of the product. I should have done this first. You can see the mix in the picture. Not everyone likes high proportions of CaCl2 (it can be slippery). I understand that, and the product description makes a point that there is better traction with this product, presumably due to the NaCl and a bit of dolomite. OK, aside from all that, I like the jug packaging. That's pretty neat and will be useful in my area where snow and ice are infrequent. It helps to have a sealed package like this for a humid area. Good plus for that.

This had to be the reason for this because there arent any marks on my cement where i park the other car and didnt use any of this product in that area. Stay away. My marks got worse over time too which reminded me to come back and leave this review

This happened on the first order which was returned and AGAIN on the replacement order. I did report it on the Feedback tab for shipping but it's not just a shipping issue. Even if picked up at a store, it could still tip over and spill in your trunk. The jug should be sealed, or at least the lid taped shut. I have purchased other ice melt products that are sealed. It's unacceptable to not have it sealed.

I also did not track as much into the house on the bottom of my shoes. The jug is portable and a good size to carry up and down the sidewalk without being too heavy, and easy to shake to spread the product.

Dear Home Depot Customer, The Snow Joe 10 lb. Jug Calcium Chloride Crystals Ice Melter is a low hazard to skin when used as directed, as brief contact is essentially nonirritating. If incidental ingestion occurs, it is not likely to cause injury because the toxicity of this product is low. If the product contacts the eyes, it should be washed out.
