[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Snow shovel that saves your back. I use this Snow Joe shovel in concert with a snow blower. For steps and the deck and any detailed snow removal that can’t be handled by my snow blower, this shovel saves my back. I also appreciate the strength and construction of this shovel. I’ve now used this twice, one on a particularly heavy snowfall where I snapped a lesser shovel clearing ice out of my driveway. I somewhat reluctantly grabbed this contraption and never looked back. If you want a snow shovel you can aggressively use without hurting your back, this is it.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Living in New England, I can’t have too many shovels! I used to be skeptical of Snow Joe’s “back saving, strain reducing” shovels, but no longer! This 20” shovel makes doing multiple passes during a big storm much easier and less painful. When I got my first snow Joe “Shovelution” a few years ago, it took a few storms to get the hang of it. All I can say now is that the “sling and fling” handle is VERY helpful! The Snow Joe has became my “go to” shovel and I reach for it before my ergonomic shovels… especially when the snow’s light and fluffy. As far as shoveling the wet, heavy, slushy snow, or the large, packed pile at the foot of the driveway left by the plow, it’s a chore regardless of the shovel I choose. So in those cases, I typically rotate shovels in order to rotate the inevitable aches and pains. The shovel is easy to assemble and weighs a mere 3.3 lbs. Weight is so important for me given it can take 3 hours to shovel out in a big storm. The aluminum blade is sharp and cuts through the hard stuff as well. If I don’t have the shovel in the correct position, I can catch an edge. I’m 6 feet tall and the 50” handle works well enough for me. It’s too bad the front handle or overall handle length can’t be adjusted up or down though. Lastly, the large plastic knob, which also acts as a handle-holder for storage, gets stuck on my jacket occasionally. Perhaps that’s because I’m left handed. I’m very happy this shovel has a two year warranty and that there are extended coverage options when registering online. The warranty not only covers defects in materials and workmanship, but also normal wear and tear items (as long as the shovel is only used for ordinary household and residential use). That’s awesome!… especially since my previous 18” Snow Joe’s spring-assist handle broke early in its second season. The constant flexing in the metal, which is soft, in conjunction with some part rusting caused it to snap off. My new shovel has the same components, so I’m concerned about durability, albeit less so with the warranty options. Great product!

Shovel is flimsy and the spring assisted handle is in an awkward position and actually requires me to bend further forward than you would with a regular snow shovel (I'm 6 feet tall). This defeats any supposed back saving or ergonomic benefits which are claimed. The shovel is also very light and feels flimsy and will probably not hold up with wet, heavy snow which is what I bought it for as the snow blower gets bogged down with this type of snow. I used it already on some light snow and finally had to set it aside and use my old shovel as it was just not working for me. I'm going to keep it and try it with the next heavy snow we get and we'll see if there's any benefit there. I seriously doubt it.

We haven't had any snow yet in Eastern PA, but I did try this shovel out with some leaves and yard debris. The second handle is attached to a piece of steel strap, so it's far more flexible than other two-handled shovels I've seen. The strap can move as you pull, so it seems to ease the amount of effort required to lift the load on the end of the shovel. It becomes more of a pivot point than a lever. Shovel can be disassembled and stored, which is a nice touch for space saving. Can't wait for some snow!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best shovel EVERRRR! This shovel is incredible....honestly makes a huge difference in how I shovel now. I’m nearly 70, with an occasional back issue so I thought I’d give it a try. I just shoveled 11 inches of snow from my walkway about 75’ to my gate, my stairs to a lower entrance, and also my mailbox access area and it worked really really well! I feel as if I only bend half as much and sort of do a side toss movement with this great new shovel design. I also appreciate the fact that while the long part of the shovel is metal, the actual handles that you hold are made of plastic so your hands stay warmer a lot longer than if they were holding on to metal parts. I hope it holds up for me, because I’m loving it so far!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Handle is too short I’m 5’9 and found the handle to be too short. I still bend over some and not good for pushing snow. Also the shovel leaves a lot of snow an ice.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from I wanted to love this but... The second handle is perfect, I don't have to bend my back at all and it's easy to grab. However, this is a bit shorter than other scoops. I am 5'6 and it's perfect for my height, but I don't see it working well for anyone above 5'8. It's not just the short handle, but you will have to bend over to achieve the proper angle to not catch the aluminum wear strip on the pavement. The wear strip is horrible. When I saw the picture, I thought it would be a thin stainless steel strip which is what I was looking for (my mistake for not reading). I wanted this strip to cut through the packed snow like my old shovel did. The aluminum is very soft and creates a massive amount of friction which makes it catch very easily. I tried sharpening it, and this did not improve the friction. I've only used the shovel 3 times and the wear strip looks half gone on the bottom. The plastic scoop is also pretty floppy, more so than my Yardworks Snow Scoop with Nylon Wear Strip. And as per the usual with my experience with scoops, the snow gathers at the front of the scoop without going inside, making you better of just getting a wide snow pusher. I don't expect this shovel to last past one season.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Unique, “spring assisted” handle design will require real snow to test. It snowed on Halloween and my worn out old snow shovel wasn’t up to the task of clearing the driveway, so I decided a new one was in order. I got the “Shovelution 20 in. Poly Blade Back Saving Telescoping Snow Shovel w/ Spring Assisted Handle” and of course it hasn’t snowed since! So while I haven’t given this shovel from “Snow Joe” a proper workout yet, it feels like it should be do the job. The shovel is pretty conventional apart from the extra handle. It’s lightweight but the 20” plastic scoop feels sturdy, and the aluminum wear strip should tolerate the usual scraping across concrete. It comes in three pieces (see pics) and is easily assembled. Thanks to the extra handle you can stand fairly upright while shoveling. Otherwise the straight shaft would force you to bend over uncomfortably. The extra handle is really unique but I’m not really sure how it works! The “spring assist” comes from the flat metal bar that forms the helper handle. I guess when you lift and throw the snow this “springiness” gives you a boost. I’ll update when I actually get to try it with snow. Model # SJ-SHLV20

You could use it as a push shovel in light snow. I doubt very much if the blade and shovel portion of this thing will hold up to pushing heavy or wet snow. Seems very flimsy to me.

How do I sharpen the blade?

I am using this shovel for the first winter season and the blade doesnt seem to be as sharp as it used to be after a couple of times shovelling with all the snow we’re getting overhere. The blade isn’t smooth on concrete or my driveway anymore. Is this normal wear and tear after only using a couple of times? I thought this should atleast last a couple of years!

I used my shovel the last two days with ten inches of snow hitting the ground. I haven’t had any issues with the shovel or the blade. The news said we had the most snowfall over two days in 129 years. I shoveled our backyard concrete repeatedly to allow my dogs access to do their business and to have a track to run Sorry to hear you are having problems with your shovel
