Rated 5 out of 5 by from Big thunderstorm...pfft Forget those expensive power bars with surge protection. I installed the Square D Whole House Surge Protector in less than an hour. All you need aside from this is a 2-Pole 20 Amp breaker that goes in your electrical panel. Mount the whole house surge protector close to the new breaker, run the wires and you're protected. Also, a nice feature that this has is cable, ethernet, and telephone protection. Now I can rest easy knowing that my home theater equipment will be safe.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great features I've had this product for a few weeks now and am very pleased with it. There are a lot of great features / extras that make this a great quality item. It came pre-wired and with flex and connectors to connect it to the electrical. panel. It has a indicator light letting you know that its working and another light that lets you know if it has to be replaced. Its small and compact so that it can fit in areas by the electrical panel without taking up alot of space. It has a spot to connect a coax cable and a phone line so they are l protected as well

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Easy install, peace of mind. I installed this under my existing panel. Installation was straight forward which I did myself. The included conduit material made it a professional look. It’s been running for two months. I’m not sure if it’s doing anything, but I guess it’s for peace of mind. I’m curious how long it will last or if it will go defective when it feels a surge. I’m worried if it shows a “replace” alert how much the replacement module is. If that happens I might just disconnect it, I’m not sure. APC in my experience is expensive to replace batteries in their UPS. It really would have been nice if they mentioned in the manual how these things work, it seems co fusing to not install it in serial we tweet the main power and the rest of your breakers. There is nothing in the manual of how they magically operate. Apparently they draw the surge into it no matter their placement on the panel.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simple yet Effective. We installed this unit for a client with disabilities and relies heavily on her monitoring equipment for her health. We have been able to provide some reassurance that her equipment will not be damaged in the event of an electrical failure. Installation was quite simple and required very few added parts. Nice that it also works with most panel suppliers. Peace of mind. Thank you.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Easy to install Easy instructions to follow if you have a good grasp of electrical essentials. I had contacted a friend of mines who is an electrician, and he simply said this. If you know how a breaker is installed and wired, it takes less than an hour and your whole home is surge protected. I recommend installing one of these because we have lost some of our appliances from electrical surges.

I have a main panel and back up generator panel. Can I install in backup panel and protect all circuits or do I need one for each panel? My concern is when I switch to generator power the main panel contents are inactive and vulnerable.

Asked by: Chris
Hi, Thank you for your question, The vendor have confirmed that it depends on panelboard setup. If the utility and the generator breakers are just interlocked and are both powering the whole panel and same circuits, then the SPD is connected to the same panel, then it protects the same connected devices regardless of the active source. If you have a split-bus setup, then the generator loads can be isolated from the utility. It is best to have SPD for both side of the split-bus.

My main panel is full, so I have a sub-panel beside the main panel. Can the surge protector be installed in the sub-panel, and if so, will all of the circuits in the main panel be protected?

Asked by: Gold5er
The whole house surge protector should be installed at the service entrance panel. It surge protects all breakers from that panel. If your panel is full, then you may have an option. Depending on the panel brand, you can purchase space saver breakers. These breakers take one space in the panel but offers TWO circuits instead of one. If you buy 2 space saver breakers, then you can free up 2 spaces in your panel. The whole house surge protector, requires a double pole 20A breaker. Many current brands offer a 15A/15A breaker that is available at Home Depot stores.

I have this product installed in the main 200A panel in my house. I also have a 100A panel fed from the 200A in my remote horse arena about 300 feet away from the house. Can I install another in the remote panel for extra protection?

Asked by: Slaffrade
You do not need to, everything downstream is protected by this if installed on the main panel. The 100A breaker feeding the sub panel will be protected.
