Rated 4 out of 5 by from Never lets me down I’ve owned one for about ten years and recently added a second to my collection. It doesn’t seem as heavy duty as the fatmax line, but I’m a DIY’er and they’ve done well for me. Even dropped the old one off my ladder a few times and it works like a champ. Also like having the lever lock and metrics on it. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great idea. Bad design. Easy fix The LeverLock is a great idea, with the tape automatically staying out when extended and easily retracting by either pushing down on the unit or squeezing it in your hand. However the locking mechanism will wear out quickly. I got maybe 2 months out of mine and I'm not a pro who uses it daily. Fortunately it's an easy fix. Take the 3 screws out and remove the half of the casing that has the screw holes in it, being very careful the tape spool stays in the other half. I used a spring clamp to free up my hands. Remove the spring loaded locking mechanism (don't lose the spring) and put 2 layers of electrical tape on the area that would come in contact with the tape at the end opposite the spring. Reassemble and it's better than new! It sounds long but it only took me about 5 minutes. The original unit would probably last longer if the LeverLock is squeezed every time while extending the tape but that's not intuitive.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Tape Markings Disappear I am a mid-seventies do-it-yourselfer. I usually have half a dozen tape measures. When a self-locking one wore out about two years ago I bought Stanley LeverLock 8m/26' STHT30824. Within a year of very light use, I noticed I was pulling out the tape 2 ft just to get a mark. The print on the tape rubbed off especially at the edges where it is most critical. The case is well made.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Bad I have had this item about two years. It is useless compared to my pocket Starret. It does not sit with the tape extended vertically when on its end. It does not hold the tape securely. The tape can only be extended about 3 ft before twisting. The write onsurface is not smooth and is tiny.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Lock no longer locks I have owned this for no more than 2 years, average use, and it no longer locks into place. I will buy a manually locking unit the next time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Arguably the Best Tape Measure Out There I've had a Stanley Leverlock tape measure for 5 or 6 years now, and it's been the best measuring tape I've ever used. The shell is a hard ABS plastic with rubber impact protection on the top and they've since increased the amount of protection on this model since I bought it. It's comfortable to grip without pressing the release lever. Blade lock is automatic so you just need to feed the tape out and it stays locked. To release, you press in the "lever" on the bottom and it smoothly retracts without any whip that could smack you. I like the lever design compared to the traditional silde-lock tape measures now because it's always smooth and easy to adjust. The tape blade is flexible and durable. I haven't been able to put any noticeable creases in it after 5 or 6 years of use and abuse. Extendable around 8 feet before it drops. The markings are clear and easy to read, not issues with the paint coming off at all. Belt clip is sturdy and clips onto belts and pants smoothly. Metal end hooks well onto wood, wall corners, drywall edges, and plenty of other applications. ::::: Pros ::::: - Solid construction and durable body - Lightweight, easy to use - Smooth retracting mechanism - Auto-locking design - Visible markings - Sturdy belt clip ::::: Cons ::::: - Pretty large tape, not very portable when shopping for furniture or building materials compared to compact 1/2-inch tape models Overall, if you need a tape for heavy DIY and renovations, this is a great option. Even light users will probably never need to buy another tape measure in their life.
