Rated 2 out of 5 by from Too Shallow Tried installing it in a ceiling with ½ drywall…the standard. Boxes should be flush with the ceiling side of the drywall. The distance between the opening of the box and the knock out is ¼ inch. Who thought if this? It would work fine if the ceiling panel thickness was ¼ inch. Played around for a bit and yanked it all out. I don’t want a box recessed 1/4 inch from the ceiling surface. Why not make the box deeper? I have attic access which gives me options. Use a regular fan rated box screwed to a 2x4 between the truss bottom chords. Done…and cheaper…and better.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor design Poor product design. They claim that it can be installed in a 4" hole that is cut for the box. You can certainly get the bar in through the hole - the expansion mechanism is poor (mine fell apart - it was easy enough to put back together). It's almost impossible to affix the hanger bracket / octagon box. The bracket goes over the bar - there are two bolts with lock washers that ultimately secure the octagon box. There's nothing to secure the hanger to the bar so it just sort of floats there. Once you put the octagon box in the hole - there's nothing to hold the bracket down and you can't get your fingers in the hold the bracket. If you attach the box first you can't expand the bar properly and it's a major issue trying to move the box along the hanger (tighten/loosen). There's whole bunch of MacGuyvering to make this work. To add insult to injury - they charge $10. because it's for rework instead of new build. I know - slightly different - but really ! I won't buy this product ever again.

What is the min/max spacing between the joists in which this can be installed?

Asked by: Mark
The box would fit almost anywhere. 22 or 24 inches is very comfortable for the box to live in , which is most rafters.
