Stiebel Eltron has been a world leader in advanced water heating technology for almost 90 years. Our engineering excellence and high-quality manufacturing results in products fulfilling the highest expectations of performance & reliability. DHC-E tankless models are 99% efficient, heating water instantaneously and endlessly and, unlike tank water heaters, have no stand-by energy losses. No venting is necessary. The compact European design saves space, allows installation with the unit visible and gives the flexibility to install in the best location. A DHC-E 12 is ideal for residential and commercial point-of-use sink applications and single-shower whole-home use. It can be easily removed from a seasonal cabin or cottage for over-wintering. The DHC-E 12 is electronically controlled and can be set to deliver water at the temperature desired. The number of sinks a DHC-E 12 can supply depends on the incoming cold water temperature, the water flow through the unit, and the supply voltage.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great water heater for Garage use I bought it 2days ago and installed it today(2022.Mar22)in the garage. Because my home has 100A current allowed and detatched garage subpanel has only 30A. I did not want to install 50A circuit breaker (on the main electrical panel) that is supplying current to the garage subpanel because the electric wire that was originally buried under the ground was probably 10gauge for 30A allowance.Definitely it was not 6gauge for 50A use. After installation When I turn the hot water at a higher volume water flow the heater’s red light indicater blinking until it matches the desired temperature and if the the temp reaches the desired one. The red light indicator becomes solid red. That means the heater is using same Amperage which means electrically cruising at a same stable amperage. But when I turn on the water speed at higher volume, the heater tries to match it and draw the higher and higher Amperage till the maximum maybe near 50Amp. Because my circuit breaker capacity was 30Amp. When I push the water volume heater was trying to match but the 30A breaker dropped down for safety. Anyway Low volume of water for my need in the garage for hand washing Not a problem. I am very much satisfied with the very hot and low but enough flow to wash my hand and casual and daily use.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from does a very decent job I have been using this unit as my base heater for about 12 month now. During winter, the tap water here is at 5.5°C (41.9°F) and it is able to warm the water to 43.5°C (110.4°F) for my kitchen faucet, which is plenty enough for our needs. Its low trigger flow rate makes it able to provide hot water for both kitchen and bathroom faucets. It is barely enough for the shower though, in the summer. To solve this issue, we use a DHC 10-2 to boost its output, which makes both unit consume up to 90A of our 200A main breaker. We do not have any cold shower, no matter how long they are.

The electrical work to achieve the installation was significant: the addition of a 50 amp dual pole breaker to our 200 amp service panel, running 6 gauge cable to the bathroom, and hard wiring to the water heater using flexible conduit. The result is instant hot water in a volume and at a temperature that exceeds my expectations.

My whole house is only a 70 amp service, I have 1 shower, a washing machine (usually used with cold water), and 2 sinks in my house. I'm hoping someone can suggest a tankless hot water heater, preferably electric, with a good rating.

Asked by: Agent P
If you only have 70 amps for your whole house, I would suggest talking to an electrician to see how much amperage you can use for a water heater. You listed a DHC-E 12 which, if you were running between 1.0 and 1.5 GPM, that probably would be ok but it does draw 50 amps of power (almost all your electrical panel) I don't think that would be good for other fixtures in the house that use electricity such as electric heaters? stoves and such. Once you find out, please feel free to call our Technical Support Department at 1-800-582-8423 Ext 6 for sizing help. Thank you.

My Elton DHC-12 heater shuts itself off periodically and has to be reset to get hot water. It has a flashing green power light. What do I need to do to keep it working without continually having to reset it?

If you the reset button is activating all the time, it is an indication the element inside has been damaged. This part should be changed or depending on the age of the heater, should be replaced. You can call our Technical Service Department at 1-800-582-8423 Ext 6 for advise and parts. Thank you.

On second thought can I wire the DHC-E 12 into my exiting 2x40amp 240 volt electrical stove outlet. I don't use it, it would be only for the water heater.

The DHC-E 12 uses a double pole 50 amp breaker. It may be as simple as changing the breaker in your main electrical panel if you already have 8/2 wire for the 40 amp breaker installed. It should tell you the wire size on the jacket of the wire to confirm this.

Madam/Sir, I feel Stiebel Eltron is the best on tankless water heating. But, still want to be on a buget.... So, can two DHC-E 12 be used in series, one in utility room and other 25 feet away at bath room? In coming water at 57 degress. Thanks for any info offered! Kentucky
Asked by: Kentucky77
Yes, these units could be used in series. The warmer the water going into them, the more hot water you can get out of them. If you have any further questions, please feel free to call our Technical Support Department at 1-800-582-8423 Ext 6 Thank you.

Will this unit be enough to supply a new washing machine with hot water?

Asked by: Tony
I would say yes, but look at the minimum flow rate of hot water required to operate the washing machine. We have an older top load machine , and it has had no problems. We did have to slow down the flow rate slightly for one of our showers for it to keep up with the expected temperature, but it still provides lots of hot water. I installed two of them and have had no issues.

Will ir do a whole house if just 1 person (me) lives there? iow... I wouldn't be taking a shower and doing dishes at the same time... also... would it use the same cable/amps as my 40 gal hot water heater? If so then the wiring is already there. thx

Asked by: Davey
The DHC-E 12 would work with a shower if it is a low flow showerhead with 1.5GPM. For the wiring the #10 AWG will not work it has to be updated to a AWG # 6.
