Stiebel Eltron has been a world leader in advanced water heating technology for almost 90 years. Our engineering excellence and high-quality manufacturing results in products fulfilling the highest expectations of performance & reliability. Tempra Series whole house tankless electric water heaters are 99% efficient and never waste energy storing hot water, but endlessly deliver it as needed. Tempras need no venting. Installation can be close to draw off points, making the wait for hot water as short as possible & maximizing energy savings. Tempras are sized based on the number of bathrooms. Tempras supply water at a constant temperature from 86 to 140 degrees F that is settable on the front panel. We recommend setting the actual highest temperature you use, typically 107 degrees for a shower. Tempra Plus models incorporate Advanced Flow Control that automatically reduces flow to deliver water at the set point if demand exceeds capacity. Regular Tempra models do not have this feature.

Installation was straightforward and I like the extra space in my utility room. It operates the same as your conventional hot water heater except you get an unlimited supply of hot water. My kitchen sink is right over the heater so I get hot water there very quickly. In other rooms of the house, i.e. second story bathrooms and my half-bath across the house from the heater, it takes a minute to get hot water through the plumbing but this is expected with any hot water heater. It does draw a lot of amperage and my lights dim when fully opening the hot side of a faucet. However, despite the large amp draw while showering, doing laundry, and cooking in the mornings and afternoons, my biggest electric bill has been $70. My house sits empty all day while my wife and I are at work so it made sense for us to go the tankless route opposed to a conventional heater maintaining water temp in a tank all day. I am happy with my choice to go tankless and I saved $600 purchasing this unit instead of the conventional propane unit the builder was going to install.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Had to return product Had electrician review our current electrical breaker boxes and power and he determined that we would need one additional breaker box just to hold the 3 large AMP breakers needed, would have to run 6 heavy duty wires in new 3" conduit up the outside wall of the house into the attic then 60' over to the garage attic where one was going to be replacing a regular water heater. Cost estimate was over $2,200! And then he would not guarantee that if we turned on the A/C and the water heater that we would not blow a breaker....back to replacing the old one with another water filled one......Grrrrr..

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Don't buy unless you already have 400amp service! This product requires 150amps! Most homes, if you are lucky, have a 200amp service. That would leave you with 50amps for all of your appliances and other electrical needs. Absurd! A regular energy efficient hot water heater requires 20 amps. I don't know how a product that requires 3 50 amp breakers would be energy efficient. So, if you want to pay to increase your electric service, pay an electrician to do all the work, and then spend almost 800.00 for this unit, go for it otherwise buy a Rheem. They have a lot more ratings and do not require an entire house of electricity to run it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good quality, good performance I had installed a tankless hot water heater from another manufacturer, which failed after 8 years, and decided to get what seemed like a somewhat more expensive, but better quality and higher capacity system. So far, it looks like I made the right choice, because the output has been uniformly hot despite the relatively cold water coming in (this is in the Adirondacks, so the real test will come in winter), and the temperature is easy to adjust. Since I was replacing another tankless heater, installation was relatively simple. The wiring was in place (three sets of #8 gauge), but I had to upgrade the three circuit breakers from 45 amps to 50 amps. Adjust the mounting screws on the wall, reconnect the water connections, connect the wires, and I was done.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from LOVE IT!!! We had a bosh unit prior to this one, which was smaller. With this unit you can flush the toilet, or wash your hands while someone is in the shower without an issue. Our plumber recommended this unit - said this company has a great product and great customer service...he actually had the local reps number in his phone! We have saves some serious cash over the years with our other unit, so if you are debating on upgrading definitely do it!

Can this unit be installed outside on a back porch in Houston, TX if it is shielded from the elements?
Asked by: Creekhouse
We do not recommend installing a Tempra in any location where freezing temperatures below 36 degrees Fahrenheit can occur. Historic low temperatures for Dallas include 7 months where the temperature can be lower than 36. In addition the unit must not be installed where it can be subjected to water splashes.

How reliable?

Asked by: Carol
If you are talking about the ability to count on dependable hot water that depends on your climate zone, water pressure, and number of hot water sources being used at the same time. Here in Cleveland as the temp started dropping so did our ability to count on even running one bat with hot water, even with the water pressure reduced by half. If you are talking construction - 3 months with no other problems.

It's this good for a commercial restaurant use needing 5 gallons/min.

Asked by: BAJ
If you are in a warmer climate area and your inlet water temp is above 65 you may be ok but if its close you may have to reduce water pressure going into the unit and that will affect the number of dependable hot water sources.

Does this product work in New England because of the ground frozen

Asked by: Claudio
I have the Tempra 29 here in Cleveland OH and even before this cold spell I had to reduce my inlet flow by half to the point where you could not run a sink while taking a shower. Call to the helpline were very direct and matter of fact not rude but sorry for your trouble even though the guide they provide on the ad pages says it can handle two showers in the coldest climate (no). Also look into the hard water filter costs (another $300approx).
