Stiebel Eltron has been a world leader in advanced water heating technology for almost 90 years. Our engineering excellence and high-quality manufacturing results in products fulfilling the highest expectations of performance & reliability. Tempra Series whole house tankless electric water heaters are 99% efficient and never waste energy storing hot water, but endlessly deliver it as needed. Tempras need no venting. Installation can be close to draw off points, making the wait for hot water as short as possible & maximizing energy savings. Tempras are sized based on the number of bathrooms. Tempras supply water at a constant temperature from 86 to 140 degrees F that is settable on the front panel. We recommend setting the actual highest temperature you use, typically 107 degrees for a shower. Tempra Plus models incorporate Advanced Flow Control that automatically reduces flow to deliver water at the set point if demand exceeds capacity. Regular Tempra models do not have this feature.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Voltage variations make LED bulbs flicker On our new home we took the advice of our contractor, who recommended this unit. It seems to work well & is remarkable compact. I definitely would not recommend it, however, for the following reason: when it is heating water it constantly modulates the voltage for more efficient & consistent heating. The big downside is that if you have high-efficiency LED bulbs in your home, they will flicker whenever the unit runs. This is true for running hot water to wash your hands, bathing or doing laundry.

My home is 1700sq ft, with clothes washer, dish washer, 1 shower, 1 tub/shower, 4 BR sinks, one kitchen sink, and it operates perfectly. It takes a minute to get hot for the BR sinks, but once hot water is flowing it's perfect. We'll see as the family gets older, and demand increases, but I recommend it highly.

Also, set starting water temperature low, like 109, to prevent thermostats from cycling off and on. Causing shower water going from hot to cold, back and forth.

While using hot water, halfway through a shower the water will get cold. I tried the temperature adjustment but that did not work.

Asked by: Cher
How does the unit preform at the other fixtures in your house? IF only having issues in the shower, it sounds like the mixing valve needs to be adjusted behind the shower valve or a shower head that allows more flow rate needs to be installed. Please call our Technical Support Department at 1-800-582-8423 Ext 6 for troubleshooting help if needed. Thank you.

What is the maximum input temperature? If I feed this with a conventional tank water heater at 140f will it damage the system?

Asked by: Everhart
To my knowledge it would simply not kick on if temperature setting was below 140. It don’t recommend setting it above 120, if it is set too high the thermostat may kick heating coils off so you would go from hot to cold back and forth.

Does the heater pull just enough power to meet the need, or does the next full 40 amps kick in? Example: if it takes 47 amps to run a shower, will the unit only draw 47 amps or pull the full 80 amps as the next tier (breaker) is put into service?

Asked by: Mike
The unit requires 3 - double pole 40 amp breakers. Each breaker will be supplying power to the unit to some degree. The unit does modulate to understand how much power it needs to pull to provide the amount of hot water you are asking from it.

We are trying to decide on sizing, but our house seems to be in between the 24 and 29 models. Does getting a larger size mean you are using more energy? Or does the unit only heat the water that's needed at any given time?

Asked by: Tommy
The units do modulate. Getting a little bigger unit is not a bad thing. Plus, it gives you that extra piece of mind if you need a little more volume of water from time to time.

I am thinking of buying this product but want to know if this is enough GPM for my house in San Mateo California. We have 2 full showers, a HE dishwasher, a HE washing machine, kitchen sink and 3 faucets. Typically our water bill is around $30 a month.

Yes, this unit would be a good choice for your home. Of course there are limitations on how many fixtures you can run at one time. If you have any questions, please feel free to call our office at 1-800-582-8423 Ext 6. Thank you

Does this unit have to be flushed with vinegar or other chemical on a yearly basis like the tankless gas water heaters? Is it possible to put a whole-house water filter which would make this flushing unnecessary?
Asked by: iwonder
Yes, if you have mineral in the water, you need to clean it with a descaling agent. Flow-Aide is a great product to use to do this. You can also use a whole house filter (stay away from a salt filter) too.

Tempra models typically are used for domestic hot water. You can use them for radiant floor but we would suggest calling our Technical Support Department at 1-800-582-8423 Ext 26 for some advice in sizing a unit for the square footage you have. Thank you.
