Rated 1 out of 5 by from Extending Think twice about purchasing this unit..first attempt on using it was as they advertise splits wood as intended to do..after a few more times using unit the extending piston would barely move ah needs more fluid fill cylinder with fluid and then retract piston quickly as so the manual suggest ..wrong.. all the fluid comes flying out of filler hole all over the place and your face this is how they say to bleed unit of all air..well refilled again as they say while pistons retracted..starting pumping handles now its extending piston a little better with more force but now the handles are reversed while applying pressure the left handle is doing what the right handle did and vice versa..I gave up brought back to store and got my refund

Wheels are rather small. A retractable extended arm would've been nice to help balance while splitting logs. I mounted mine to a hand truck which is easier for moving and helps in balancing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Does the job Works super easy - was great to pull it out of the box and get started in seconds. Very easy to use. I hope this review can override my other one - I accidentally reviewed a chainsaw and it posted here on this log splitter. Hopefully people will see or the review will get rejected.

What is the shortest log length that can be split?

What is the shortest log length that can be split?
Asked by: Hopeful
If your small log is too short, you can add blocking. Be sure your log ends are nearly flat and perpendicular. I place several pieces of 2x6 on end between the log and the push end.

2 questions for LoggerMike, or anyone who has modified the wheels. Using the modified wheels: 1. Have you attempted to move it over loose gravel /stone driveway? 2. And did you find the need to use wedges to prevent it from moving away while you were pumping the handles?
Asked by: 37W3
I have a gravel driveway and was able to move it to the spot where I split the wood with no problems. I didn't have any issues with it moving around at all. It is pretty stable if you just get it in a flat area. One of the handles advances the log to the wedge faster than the other so I just moved both handles in unison until it started to get harder to push and pull and the used the shorter advancing handle to actually split the log in half and then released the pressure and split each half log again. A few of the logs were a little bigger than recommended but it split them, no problem.
