Rated 1 out of 5 by from Did not work in brick Would not work in brick, despite what it says (and shows) on the package. Drilled a 1/4" hole with hammer drill and masonry bit, cleaned out the hole, and tried to screw in this Tapcon 5/16" concrete anchor. It would not "bite" or "catch" or "thread" (whatever you want to call it. It would just spin at the entrance to the hole, never penetrating at all. After several minutes of trying to get it to thread, using a socket wrench and then a screwdriver, all it accomplished was reaming out the hole a quarter inch deep to the same 5/16" diameter as the screw. Threw them in the garbage, went back to Home Depot and bought sleeve anchors (and a 5/16" masonry bit) and that worked just fine for my application. Very disappointed as I had some smaller-diameter Tapcon screws work in brick in the past. I guess these new, larger-diameter ones just aren't perfected yet.

You use a 1/4" masonry drill bit for the 5/16" Tapcon.

I have a 6 inch 6000 psi concrete pad that i poured in 2013. Last week i bought at 10x12 hard top gazebo from home depot. I still need to drill and anchor it. Will these tapcons do the trick? Not keen on wedges

Asked by: James
Yes I've used Tapcon to anchour several gazebos - note that you need only go 1" - 1-3/4" into the concrete. Any more and the screw will likely sheer off due to resistance and be sure to drill 1/2 deeper than needed and blow out the dust.

Will this rust in an outdoor coastal environment?

Will this rust in an outdoor coastal environment?
Asked by: Xeno
While the Climaseal coating on these anchors allows them to be used in outdoor environments, they are not recommended for coastal environments. Consider using a stainless steel anchor for any outdoor coastal projects as stainless steel will hold up best in those conditions.

Is this tapcon approved for use in ACQ treated lumber, for long term performance?

I need to fasten pressure treated lumber on a project. PT lumber causes fasteners to corrode if they're not coated with a coating that protects them, or they're Type 300 stainless steel. Do these tapcons come with a coating that will last in PT lumber?
Asked by: Prorooferguy60
Hi Prorooferguy60, I contacted Tapcon to get you an answer. Tapcon stated yes you can use this anchor on pressure treated lumber. Tapcon also pointed out to me the bottom section of the front of the package, where it states approved for treated lumber. Hope that answered your question.
