Rated 1 out of 5 by from Great for restricting traffic during COVID I can not open this door myself as a fully grown adult male if I am holding a coffee and a granola bar, without spilling the coffee. Great if you are looking to keep people out of the building.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Difficult to open door because of heavy tension This door closer (Tell Size 4 Commercial Door Closer) has a very heavy spring tension--which is not adjustable--so the door requires great effort to pull or push open. You might even wrongly assume that the door is locked because of the force required to open it. Children, elderly, and anyone without good strength will not be able to open the door. It's a safety hazard for that reason alone. I uninstalled and returned the closer to Home Depot. If the manufacturer is reading I'd like to mention that they could probably avoid 1000 support calls if they rewrote the installation instructions. They are unbelievably badly written: referring to figures and pages that don't exist (eg., there is no "page 5"), littered with spelling and grammar mistakes ("frome" instead of frame, "clokwise" instead of clockwise), mentioning an index mark that's not shown in the diagram, referring a "BC adjustment" screw that doesn't exist on this model, having a photo on the box in which the arm shoe is installed on the wrong side of the closer (closer to adjustment screws, contrary to the written instructions which show it farther away from the adjustment screws), and worst of all is that the written instructions don't explain how to turn the bolt with a wrench to align the arm perpendicular to the closer (an essential step that is shown in Tell's online video but not in the written instructions. Furthermore, what's up with two Tell door closers sold at Home Depot that are absolutely identical but with different model, SKU, and UPC codes? The Tell Size 4 Commercial Door Closer, Model # DC100312, Store SKU # 1000851699, and Tell Size 3 Commercial Door Closer, Model # DC100311, Store SKU # 1000851700, are absolutely identical, with same part numbers on the closer itself, same accessories, same (awful) instructions, and the same price. Just different boxes and different model/SKU/UPCs. I do not recommend this door closer unless they fix the excessively heavy tension (or make it adjustable) and they rewrite the instruction manual.

I purchase a Model DC100312 door closure which states it is UL/ULC listed. The Label shows UL but not ULC. I am trying to get municipality approval for occupancy and they are saying that it is UL and must be ULC. How can I prove ULC?

Asked by: Neil
