Rated 5 out of 5 by from Will miss these boxes Love these small boxes. Unfortunately, I’ve just learned that The Home Depot have changed manufacturers and this box is now being phased out. Too bad because the new small boxes are an awkward shape being narrower and longer and include handles which anyone who has moving experience knows that you ALWAYS carry boxes by support the bottom and NEVER carry boxes by the handles because they rip. Sadly, I will need to find a new manufacturer/retailler because I do not like the new boxes.

I would think so. And I ship a lot of stuff I sell on line. Both he post office and UPS websites have a page for calculating shipping cost. That page asks for dimensions and weight for larger packages. That would answer your question exactly.

Are the boxes designed so the flaps dont meet when closed or is this a defect?

If you have this issue look where the box is glued together. If you see that there is a gap on top and bottom of the folded glued tab this is a defect. The tab should fold and glue so that the corner has no gap. This gap causes the box top not be square and then your flaps will not line up when put together. If you take strapping tape around the box at the top and bottom after pressing that corner square you can use box just fine to ship anything that is not heavy. This will happen in very Few Home Depot boxes my guess based on using these boxes a lot would be like 1 in 100 boxes.

Any issues with tape sticking to them?

I have bought multiple sizes and used 3 different brands of packing tape. The tape keeps peeling off. At room temp, no humidity. Can’t figure it out.

Light weight. Will hold normal weight things but for heavy glassware, skillets, etc. there are heavy duty boxes.

I would not recommend this box for books. Home Depot sells a 'Heavy Duty" version of this box which would be much better for books or other heavy items. It is Model # 1001016. This box is good for general light weight items.

How thick is the cardboard? Is it corrugated?

THERE ARE LIGHT WEIGHT AND HEAVY DUTY. DEPENDING ON WHAT YOU ARE PUTTING IN THEM WOULD DETERMIND WHICH ONE IS BEST. I USE THE REGULAR FOR STORING AND SHIPPING AND HAVE NOT HAD A PROBLEM.
