Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good experience We used this in a complete remodel of our bathroom. We thought it would be easier than trying to build our own base unit. But installation was difficult, at least for us as DIYers. Generally the company is helpful in answering questions, but not always. What I learned: First, the flange on the drain apparently doesn't need any kind of extra pieces, despite the threading that the manufacturer leaves. The 3" pipe stubs directly into the drain and glues with standard pcv glue. Or at least it's supposed to fit. Ours was too tight and I had to cut away some of the material with a knife before I could get the stub to fit. Second, make sure you level it carefully around the edges in both directions. In our rush to make sure the underlying mortar was sufficient, I forgot this step until it was almost too late and we had to try to pry the unit back up from the floor to get the shims in place that we needed. Third, we found that the amount of resin-mortar included in the product to tile on top was just enough to do the job. If you waste any or put , you might be sunk and need to buy more. Fourth, make sure you cut your tiles ahead of time and lay them out because the resin/mortar dries quickly. The package says 45 minutes. We found we had about an hour, which we needed, even though we had carefully cut out all of our tiles and worked quickly. Unlike other mortars, if you get any on top of the tile, it is very hard to clean off or even chisel off once it dries. Fifth, and most important: tiling on the threshold itself was a bear. The width is unusual and the company refused to give any tips about how to tile it. We were using a very hard porcelain tile that presented an "outside edge" problem. We ended up using decorative trim pieces on the threshold, but it took us ages to find the right solution, and the standard threshold pieces that they sell at Home Depot, which are typically 3 or 4 inches wide, didn't fit. Maybe if you are using smaller, cheaper, ceramic tiles you won't have as much trouble as we did.
