Rated 3 out of 5 by from Worried about maintenance I have had this blower going on my third year now. Worked well the first year. Couldn’t start it at the start of my second year. Cleaned the carb and it started but still had to take it in because it still ran rough. It also was making a sound similar to a small electric motor when they go bad. Dealer had to replace the carb and they said they greased it (not sure where). They said that the machines are sometimes sent from the mfgr w/out this. Good luck this year but recently am hearing that noise again. Paid a lot for this unit in hopes I wouldn’t have problems....

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Toro has disappointed me I bot this unit to replace an old 826 Toro with the Tecumseh engine The machine will blow light or medium snow very nicely but the engine is underpowered for wet heavy snow or the plowbank, you have to inch along The engine is NOT 8hp like the SnoKings were on a grade the machine is helpless with the 13 inch wheels, I added chains and that helped but the chains are clumsy on concrete or blacktop in retrospect, I should have gone with a larger motor, thinking seriously about selling this unit on Craiglist and buying a more powerful unit

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Tough to Maintain Works great, but maintenance is an issue. I like to do my own maintenance as much as possible. The spark plug is extremely difficult to access. You have to take off 3 covers and then reach under the sharp muffler bracket to pull the wire. Stripped the small screw putting the muffler cover back on. Even though I put it away in spring as recommended, I have to drain the carb to get it going in the winter. Again, more covers to remove with rusty screws.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Fuel Leak: Terrible Warranty Service I rarely leave reviews, but I hope that this helps other people who may consider purchasing a Toro snow blower. I purchased this product because I saw it as a trusted brand. Overall, it does throw snow well. However, it leaked gas since shortly after I purchased it. When I spoke to a few friends about getting it fixed they suggested that I wait until after the season as the local authorized repair centre is notorious for poor service when you have purchased from a big box retailer (i.e. Home depot). So, I took it in a week ago and the first thing that the service centre said was "did you buy it from us?" when I said no they told me to bring it back in the fall as they were not working on snowblowers right now. Really??? I am not supposed to bring a machine in when it is off season so that I can ensure that it works during the winter? I have tried to get Toro Canada to pay another shop for warranty repair. The assistant manager of my local Home Depot has also advocated for me with little success. What I really want is for Home Depot to refund me my money so that I can get another brand--one that I can get serviced without hassle. The only silver lining is that this model has a Briggs Motor, so I can get it fixed at an authorized Briggs service centre (and maintain my warranty). Unfortunately, I had to dig around to find this answer on my own. Buyer beware: ensure that your local service centres maintain good customer service if you buy from a big box store otherwise you may be stuck as there is very little that can be done to help you in situations like mine.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Light and powerful So far I'm very happy with this machine. The joystick control is good but it takes a bit of getting used to, that's a problem with the operator, not the machine. Much lighter than my previous blower and this makes it MUCH easier to maneuver. I like the two reverse speeds but don't use them a lot as the unit is easy to pull back for short distances. This unit also throws the snow much further than my last.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent Snow Thrower Third winter for my Toro. Excellent Snow Thrower. Very easy to use compared to other brands I have used. Only feature I would like changed is the traction and auger cables. They need to be stronger. Had to replace auger cable after two years. A heavier cable would be great. The connection of the cable to the cylindrical part in the handle is far too slight

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Power Max 826 OE Once I got the speed selector in the right spot and some oil in the auger gearbox, the machine sounded and acted more normal. It worked very well the next 2 snowstorm.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A real snow eater! We bought this to replace an old snowblower that was no longer able to throw snow. Of course this happened after 2 back to back storms, leaving us with 5.5 ft high, 4 ft wide piles at the end of the 2 drives we clean up. This new Toro started 1st pull and handled the aformentioned piles, which were by then, 2 days old. We were thrilled with the ease of which it handled the mess and how far it was able to throw the snow. Veryimpressive!! Made cleaning up almost enjoyable. Having only had to use it the one time, i am unable to acurately rate it on dependability, as this takes multiple uses in my mind. Also quality would necessitate more than the one use. But don't get me wrong, this is one tough, impressive machine that i highly recommend!

is this an electric start? my wife wants to use it as well

Asked by: master of the universe
Hope this answer isn't too late. Yes, this is an elecric start snowblower. Even if yiu have to pull start it, if the start-up instructions are followed, it starts very easily. I sell these machines and also own one and it is a very user friendly machine. Light weight and maniuverable for a snow blower as well so your wife should find it an easy machine to use.
