Rated 2 out of 5 by from Disappointed Purchased this machine in February 2021. Have used 3 -4 times. While the machine has plenty of power, it fails to scrape and both wheels have fallen off more than once while using. Wheels are secured with a bolt & nut that goes thru the wheel thru the axle and secured with lock nut. Dealer and manufacturer have failed to stand by their warranty. I notified Toro and they sent me parts that were not relevant to the problem.

I'm satisfied with this purchase at Home Depot and with the timely and courteous delivery. Snowblower arrived crated and the machine preparation was easy to accomplish in around 20 to 30 minutes. Oil level was normal; added fuel and machine started and ran without any problems. Toro website shows this machine as having 17 inch wheels but the manual says 16 inches (Toro Sales, Engineering and Marketing get your act together). I bought this machine because my old one has 13 inch wheels and is hard on my back from maneuvering it. I think the larger wheels and the independent action of both wheels will make clearing the driveways easier. Bought it after our last snow storm so I didn't get a chance to try it for clearing snow. Three stars only because the new HD 828 machine is very loud and noisy. Loud vibrations/ rattle sound as if the scrapers are constantly rubbing, metal to metal inside the auger hosing but it's because of the poor design in which the (metal) discharge chute is sitting (rattling) floating (with no insulation such as a plastic or Teflon gasket of some sort) on top of the main metal frame. Toro: take care of that problem and you will have a five star machine!

Throws snow a mile, easy turn, one hand operation and starts on first pull. It’s big heavy delivery and unpacking was a challenge for one person. I opted to add some universal nylon shoes to prevent rust stains in the garage and make gliding easier. They fit well and slide perfectly. This is quality well engineered product. Probably will be buying a Toro ZTR lawn mower after seeing the build quality.

The Snow blower was delivered with no shear pins, so when I went you use it for the first time it didn't throw snow. When you try to contact Toro, there is no way to get a live person to speak with so you are caught in this endless loop on the telephone. Very bad experience. I had to find a local toro dealer to get shear pins. Other than that the snow blower works as advertised. Hopefully I will never need to call toro in the future!

can the tires be outfitted with chains
Asked by: Todd
Chains didn't help with my 13 inch tire Toro model 724. I upgraded to this 828 model for it's larger tires. The treads look aggressive enough and I don't think chains will be necessary. Try it out without chains first.

I understand that Toro does not use Shear pins Because if it takes in something too big the engine immediately shuts down what is the mechanism inside the machine that tells the engine to shut down
Asked by: Billy
Your right, no shear pins to replace. Toro uses extra heavy duty gears in the auger differential so if you suck up something large the auger jams and stalls the engine. I sucked up a rock the size of my fist. I just dislodged the rock and started it up and continued clearing the driveway. No damage and no shear pins to replace!

What type of auger cable is used, specifically the end that connects to the handle. I have a troybilt currently that has a Z cap that fits through the hole on the handle. It often comes out a lot and is too fragile and has broken several times. Hopeful that this model uses a different connector.
Asked by: BK
Toro cable won't break. It is strong and capable.
