Rated 5 out of 5 by from I am really happy with the Toro Power Max HD 928 I recently purchased a new Toro Power Max HD 928. I couldn't be happier with the purchase. My biggest concern with buying a new snow blower was how it would handle the really wet heavy snow that used to clog the shute of my old snowblower. The first snow storm that I had with the new 928 was one of the slushiest snow storms I have seen. My old snowblower would have clogged up with 1/2 a pass down the driveway. This new 928 was launching the wet heavy slush up and out of the driveway like it was nothing It was especially impressive at the end of the driveway where the wet heavy snow plow bank develops. The power of this snowblower is really impressive. I am in my mid 50s. I think this will be the last snowblower I ever purchase. Toro is the best name in snowblowers. I didn't seriously consider any of the other brands. You won't be sorry if you purchase this model.

Nice looking Snow Blower with a lot of good features, it runs well and blows snow very well, but the stock skids are useless in gravel. Also mine seems to be bent somehow, the front is not even or level when you push down on the bars to lift blower up in front, one side comes off the ground first and when you set it down again it is not level, one side hits first, it is un even. While blowing it seems to want to pull to one side because there is more pressure on one side. I have taken the skids of, adjusted them many time but it is still not level. If it has better skids and the thing was level I would git it 5 stars.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from hard to control used to have a Troy built, 28 inch 9hp, with trigger steering, could do 4 driveways no problem, with the Toro I am beat after two. Find it hard to steer it, thought the new auto steer would be easier around obstacles and curved walkways but it is not. It does a great job of throwing snow. Way better than the Troy built, no comparison. Also the Auger control will not stay down for one handed operation. this takes away the advantage of the joy stick chute control. I have to stop the machine to change the chute direction, I thought the joy stick would be better than the crank like on the Ariens, but if I have to stop it makes no difference

Had the P Max about a month now and encountered 3 storms here in Minnesota. 1st storm was a good test of wet snow and the ability to chuck that stuff yards away. Storm today was light and fluffy and that was launched into the sky and is last seen heading west. All kidding aside starts good and fires up with electric start. Love the stick shift for moving the chute to chuck snow in all directions. The reality that hit me today is that my wife probably could not operate the controls effectively. Needs your "head" in the game using the shifter and auger control as you navigate curves and inclines. That is ok with me as I am safety conscious. A test of my happiness will be the long term reliability of this machine. My last snow blower was a 8 HP MTD and was still going at 14 years. I wanted more horsepower and that is why I got this one.. The user directions require an oil change after the first 5 hrs of use. Based on that I would recommend getting the maintenance kit up front like I did. That way you also may get another year on the warranty.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Beast when working! Absolute beast when working, throws snow almost too far (sorry neighbour!). Purchased due to the HD branding, steel construction and wanting to keep it for many years. Initial quality is less than expected (missing two thrust washers causing the axle to slide completely out and rendering it useless until the replacement parts arrived). On the 3rd use the Trunnion came complete apart (only plastic piece in drive system and is constantly under pressure). Still able to use but not able to move out of 2nd gear. Great when the snow is deep, little too slow for a regular snowfall. Overall happy with the machine aside from the two hiccups.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Low quality product This product is low quality. Multiple areas are missing paint, which will eventually rust. Engine is way underpowered, it cannot blow 12 inches of snow without the engine almost stalling. Assembly was not done properly. Product was delivered without a user manual, I had to download it from the Toro's website and then reassemble the unit following the user manual. I contacted the Toro's customer service and they told me I have to bring the unit to a service centre, which I cannot do since it does not fit in my car. Very disappointing for a $2000 snowblower, my previous 2 other brand units were way better for a fraction of the price.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works great but hurts hand It blows snow admirably well but you have to hold the left handle down so hard (wheel handle) that even my son and husband can't use it for more than 20 minutes at a time - Is there any way to make it easier to hold?

I purchased this model to replace my 25 year old Toro 828 for our New England winters. Light and fluffy or heavy and wet snow, even slush have not been a problem for this machine. The engine is strong and starts on the first or second pull. I have not had any issues with clogging like with my old snow blower. The power assisted steering is probably my favorite feature. Tight turns and turning around are no longer an issue. The LED light is bright and the location make it very useable when the sun goes down and the work is not done yet. My driveway is mostly paved but I do have a part that is gravel. It was important for me to not have to deal with shear pins in case I happened to suck up something by mistake. All being said, I am very happy with my new Toro Power Max HD 928. Home Depot assembled it for me and had it ready to go when I arrived. As you can tell, I would recommend this snow blower.

Does this machine have power steering? Looks like it does in pictures, has triggers.

Asked by: Curt
The Power Max HD 928 (version 2018 model) does not have triggers for steering. Triggers start at the HD 1028 model and up. Instead it has "Automatic Steering". I've tried it out on my own 2018 HD 928 snowblower and it works very well. Super easy to maneuver because to change directions you simply direct the snowblower the way you want to go and the wheels automatically adjust - no triggers, no fighting a single axle with both wheels constantly turning the same speed. A very good review and explanation can be found here https://www.snowblowerforum.com/forum/toro-snowblowers/143585-moving-snow-toro-h928oae-walkaround.html

Without having shear pins..what happens to blower if a solid ( rock or wood) object gets into the auger area of blower?? If there are no shear pins......... will the engine /transmission be damaged??
Asked by: james
If the auger hits hard material, the engine is designed to stall. Toro machines don’t use shear pins. Instead, we use a combination of high strength hardened gears and gear box with non-custom shear bolts which are designed to work in tandem in the harshest conditions. Toro bolts aren’t design to break as easily as competitive models who use pins, therefore replacement is minimal, if ever. If the bolt is to break a standard grade 5 bolt can be used for replacement and found at your local hardware store. Thank you.
