Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent cordless hedge trimmer [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This really great choice for a homeowner, no cords to fight with and get tangled in and also no gas to mix or have to go out for. My battery out of the box took less than 45 minutes to charge fully. Instructions say about an hour. You have a button to press on the battery giving you charge level. Plug in the battery and trim. Has a nice feature to rotate the control handle which detents each position to cut the vertical sides of the hedge. Great product

I have a electric trimmer 18 inch does not even compare. Best buy yet. Now for the negative,, will the battery last? I hate for the battery to sit while I wait for the shrubs to grow enough to use again. Going to have to look at some Toro tools to keep the battery from going to waste. Love it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works Very Well! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The " POWERPLEX 24 IN. 40-VOLT MAX LITHIUM-ION CORDLESS HEDGE TRIMMER", Works very well. I was pleasantly surprised on the amount of power this cordless hedge trimmer has! But first things first, when you get your trimmer the 1st thing you need to do is charge your battery. The battery and charger are included. The battery has an button that shows you the level of charge of the battery. Once your battery is charged you are ready to go. The trimmer handle can turn 90 degrees to the left or right depending on the direction that you are trimming. I like the safety features too. You have to have both hands on the trimmer in order for it to work. The forward handle has a bar that must be pressed along with the button next to the trigger. Once these 2 button/bar in pressed the trigger can be pulled. The trimmer is able to cut some pretty thick branches. The cutting blades are sharp and work very well. I like this trimmer and will use it often because no cords are needed so you won't be confined anymore.

I like the hedge trimmer itself a lot, but I purchased it with battery pack and charger, and the battery pack was totally not functional. It wouldn't even begin to charge. So, I returned it to a Toro dealer and am waiting for a new one to arrive. I have another of the exact same battery that I got with a couple of other Toro tools, and it works fine, so it was the new battery that just had something very wrong with it.

It makes it easy to trim on the side without hurting your hand or wrist. It has Up to 60 minutes run time. I trimmed all my plants in one run time never had to re-charge. Reduced vibration with the dual action cutting system. Easy to get to hard to reach plants with its long blade.

Cross-cut blade design grips and cuts as advertised; blows my old gas version away. Battery charges fast and lasted for 350 linear feet of boxwood hedges. I added a bubble level with Velcro positions on fixed blade guide (horizontal), and back handle (vertical); sweet and accurate cuts. I was so pleased, I also purchased their matching blower; love it.

As proof of impartiality, just click on my nickname and see the average of the ratings I have given over 200 reviews to date. ==== First impressions ==== No assembly required except for pushing in the battery. The battery came with a modest charge for storage purposes. ==== Operation ==== This trimmer has 3 controls that must be used to operate the trimmer. There is a guard handle switch that must be gripped in order for the tool to work. There is a trigger grip in the main handle with a safety button that must be activated first before gripping the switch. So, you hold the safety bar in one hand gripping it to operate that switch. Then you push on either end of the safety button before gripping the main switch. It does take a little bit of practice to keep from releasing at least one of the two switches while using the trimmer. You can see in my video that I frequently let go of one of the switches inadvertently. The trimmer has enough power to cut through 1/2" branches easily. The specs actually state a maximum of 0.71" diameter. I had no real problems trimming two small trees, about the size of large bushes. The trimmer is a bit heavy at 9.5 lbs. The handle rotates to one of 3 positions, upright, left 90 and right 90 degrees. There is a lock button to release it. I trimmed the two small trees and a larger bush and still had plenty of power left after starting at a level of about 40% on the battery. As far as I could tell, there is no storage mode on the battery charger. ==== Summary ==== Plenty of power. Fairly heavy. 3-level safety on operation switch. **Note: This review is to be moved to the correct product page for the Toro 40v 24" hedge trimmer Model 51491.**
