Rated 1 out of 5 by from Stay away !!! I bought this product in july, 2020, using it for 3 summer months last year, at my cottage to dehumidify the basement, then put it away for the winter. In may 2021 I started using it again . Everything was good until this month (sept, 2021) it iced up on the coil (enclosed picture). I contacted Toshiba recently to complain about it, they asked me to send them pictures of the frosted unit, the receipt and the serial number of the unit. And at the end, they told me that the unit was out of warranty and they could not do anything about it. Stay away from this product if you do not want to regret like me...

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor warrenty I got this less than 2 years ago. Worked great at the beginning, then it stopped collecting water. I contacted Toshiba but unfortunately, it was beyond the 1 year and there was nothing they could do about it and it is now discontinued. I'm pretty disapointed that I got rid of my very old, ugly dehumidifier (15-20 years old) for this well known high end brand that looked good for our newly renovated laundry room. It's unfortunate now that we will not be Toshiba costumers, I expected more from this brand. Only buy it if you're looking for something to work for a year.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from poor product, poor company assistance. Bought a Toshiba 50pint dehumidifier on December 6 6, 2020. Stopped working in March 2022, 13 months after the warranty expired. Contacted Toshiba. they are very sorry but nothing can be done about it They can't suggest anyone repair the product. I guess they think that is normal for people to spend $298 on a dehumidifier every year or so. Their suggestion was to dispose of the unit never mind adding to the ecological problem with more crappy products. Advise anyone thinking of buying Toshiba products to be aware that the after-service is nil after the warranty expires.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Just worked for 1.5 years I bought this dehumidifier on August 2022. This dehumidifier worked until last summer (2023). But I brought this to my basement in this year (2024), this dehumidifier didn't collect any water. When I read reviews in this website, I understood. Many reviewers had same issues. This dehumidifier just worked only for 1.5 year, spending almost $300 with tax in Quebec. The compressor is working, but looks like not enough refrigerant remains based on reviewer's comments. Better to avoid this product. Usually the normal dehumidifier works at least 5 - 10 years based on my experience.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Regret Purchasing Unfortunately the poor reviews are very accurate. Whether it it break down in a few months or in my case after only two years of operation, you will regret purchasing. For me the unit decided to ice up and stop collecting water. Everything else worked fine and I made the mistake of contacting Toshiba customer care. I knew it was out of warranty for a replacement, but was hopeful they would repair. They will waste your time with phone calls of updates, and while they claim they are in the USA, the call quality is terrible and you can’t understand a word they are saying. Gave it 1 star as it did work, but for $400 I’d expect more. In brief I (and you will too) regret purchasing over other options.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Great start - Poor Finish I bought this dehumidifier exactly 14 months ago. I must say that I was extremely impressed with its operation when it was new. It performed well as advertised during the warranty period but when that magic 1 year warranty expired, so did this unit. Common issue was Ice Build-up. I followed all Trouble-Shooting instructions, cleaned filter, un-plugged it for 48hours to allow it to defrost and dry out. My basement is well above the 65 degree F and within 30min Ice Build-up! You would expect a $300+ unit to last several years with proper maintenance. I feel its a warranty money grab to gouge the customer or a software program that is set/designed to fail just after the warranty expires. I also agree with other Reviewers that no assistance was offered by Toshiba and Home Depot because of the 2 months past the expiry date on the warranty. Disappointed!!!!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from tddp5013es2c Toshiba dehumi work only two seasons Like others have experienced the short lifespan of this tddp5013es2c dehumidifier. I too have purchased it in spring of 22. Worked summer 22 and 23 but nothing since May 15 2024. It does start like usual being set on comfort and low speed, then within few soconds the humidity reading gets lower and lower until it starts grinding like a moulinex then throws heat and doesn't shut off when I turn it off. No water in bucket, no ice on the coils. All that happens within a minute. It only stops that awful noise when I unplug it. I'm going to contact manufacturer like they suggested to others and hopefully they will help fix the problem. I am a clean single man with disability living in a basement apartment. My son cooks upstairs for me, I have no pets and can't afford fixing this product after just and only 2 season's worth. COME ON TOSHIBA !!!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from I do not recommend this product I bought a unit like in 2020, worked well all summer, and well the summer after. Third summer, had a hard time starting the compressor, it would not kick in, putting it in comfort and manually selecting 35% for humidity seemed to work. A few days later I switched to Continuous (Automatic). Worked like a CHARM all summer. I cleaned it as I usually do, put it away and tried starting it this summer (May-2024) and compressor did not work, nor could I get it to work. I went to Home Depot bought another, same model, and this one going to the landfill. I am surprised that a reliable product cannot be designed and made.

Is there a limit of days it can be on Continuous Cycle 24/7?

I’m not aware of any limit. I’ve had one on a timer (overnight—about 8 hours) for more than a year without any issues

can you attach a hose and empty it into the sink in the basement?

Asked by: Judy
You can attach a hose to the dehumidifier. We drain ours into the sump pump or alternatively into the floor drain.

While my dehumidifier is using the bucket to collect water in, it also leave a small puddle of water on the floor. Is this normal? I have double checked and the hose port is securely closed, and that the bucket is also positioned correctly.

Will this unit work effectively at lower temperatures? e.g. 15 degrees C. It would be used for a home in the Pacific Northwest in the winter.

Asked by: ddog
Hi…absolutely…I keep my house at a crisp 18 degrees year round and operate my dehumidifier in the basement where it can get a good deal cooler. This dehumidifier does the job nicely, had it running almost nonstop last spring when we had torrential rains and my basement had seepage. It will fill fast and I highly recommend using the attachment for a hose and running in directly into the sewer if it’s an option where you live. The external snap-on filter is very fine and the unit will turn itself off if it becomes clogged, so brush off/vacuum often.

What size of hose and what size is the connection on this machine do I need if I buy this machine? Also why is the hose not included with this dehumidifier?

Asked by: Scott
Hello Scott. Thank you for your question about the Toshiba 50-Pint 115-Volt ENERGY STAR Dehumidifier with Continuous Operation Function. The unit uses a standard garden hose for continuous draining. However, the hose does not come included at the time of purchase. A standard garden hose can be purchased from your local hardware store. -Toshiba Customer Care. (BBB A+ Accredited Business)
