Rated 4 out of 5 by from Toshiba portable A/C Cools the bedroom well. It is a little loud for a bedroom though. Can wake you up when it cycles on and off during the night.

All you really hear is the air whooshing sound. The only minus is that since it only had one hose, some outside (hot) air must leak into the room somewhere to make up for expelled air. The two-hose units don’t do that.

Does this have to be connected to a window? Or can I leave it in the middle of my apartment with no window access?
Asked by: Ilovenyc31
Yes, this has to be connected to a window. The hot air needs somewhere to go, after all! :)

Does it come with the window kit ?

Asked by: vmoreno24
Yes, but the insulation tape it comes with isn’t the greatest. I might recommend buying an additional roll of some better stuff.

When using the air conditioning mode will this unit drain to the outside or do I have to empty the reservoir periodically? Also, I’m going to use this to cool a shed. Will the air exhausting to the outside cause a need for make up air and pull outside air in causing moist hot air to enter the shed?
Asked by: Choo
You will have to empty the reservoir occasionally, though I have yet to need to do so and I’ve had my unit for roughly a month. Also, yes, this unit will draw in air from outside to replace the air being exhausted. You can avoid this by purchasing a double-hose AC.

Why does it say 8,000 BTUs but then it says 6,000 BTUs? What does that mean?

Why does it say 8,000 BTUs but then it says 6,000 BTUs? What does that mean?
Asked by: Jr
Because this is a single-hose unit, the air that it cools the condenser coils with is air from inside your house, some of which has already been cooled down. It also creates negative pressure in your house, causing air to be drawn in from outside through cracks in your doors, windows, etc. This efficiency loss is reflected in the lower rating. 8000/6000 means, essentially, that the unit produces 8,000 BTUs of cooling, but you only benefit from 6,000 BTUs.

Do I need to buy anything else for this item?
Asked by: Au
You may wish to buy an additional roll of foam insulation tape. They give you just enough to do the job with no mistakes, and it doesn’t seem to be super high quality stuff. That said, it does come with everything you need.

Just purchased this unit as i cannot find a window model that will fit my new windows. Are all the lights on the top of unit supposed to go out after a certain amount of time after setting it up? First night i swear the lights stayed on all night but now they are not on, even though the unit is still working.
Asked by: cronk
That does not seem to happen on my unit, which I’ve had for about a month-ish. I rarely leave it running for more than about 12 hours at a time, though.
