Initially I had it set on continuous mode; then about a week later I got an email from the electric company that said my usage had jumped by 30% year over year for the month. So now I just turn it on for a few hours at a time. It does have a timer.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Compact Quiet Dehumidifier This was purchased to replace an old dehumidifier that likely had a bad compressor capacitor from fact lights almost went out every time it started cycle. The Toshiba is compact, somewhat quite ( compared to older dehumidifiers.) Located in basement and was able to easy create support from few scraps to sit on slop sink to hold dehumidifier and allow constant draining option. Did not buy pump option. Be aware there is required minimal clearances on particular sides. First dehumidifier have ever owned with filters, so waiting for opportunity to check and possibly clean.

Attaching a garden hose seems like too much weight. The connection on the unit is a light plastic. Once I resolve this issue, and can stop emptying the unit storage container, I sure it will be fine.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect in my studio apartment I love this dehumidifier. It fits perfectly under my tall side table beside my couch and works in my ~400sqf studio apartment. I have single pane windows which always condensate and since I've been running this on the comfort setting, I haven't had any condensation on the windows. It is definitely loud, but I've gotten used to it as white noise, and can still watch TV with it on, though sometimes I turn it off.

I have live in a 1,000 square foot condo with high ceilings and a stairwell that I want to dehumidify to because of condensation on my windows. Will this unit do the job without running continually? My home hygrometer reads 49%.
