Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love this product!!!!!! I’ve used this product for years for outdoor metal items that are left outdoors all year round and exposed to all the weather elements. I’ve been able to restore a rusted mailboxes (changed from white to black), urns, light fixtures, umbrella patio stand (changed from beige to black) back to looking like new again. Other than my plant urns (which I let go for too long before restoring it), I have yet the need to retouch anything else. Great product!! My project this year is to restore my patio table from a light beige to black. Also restore second and third hand patio chairs. So far so good!!!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Completely ruined my project. I'm restoring an old STEEL framed bicycle, I prepped and painted all of the components with Tremclad spray paint, no issues. According to the paint, I was to add a clear coat after 48 hours. So I wait 48 hours, spray of the clear coat and it compelety strips my paint job. I mean it literally ATE through the paint. I would understand if maybe it was another brand, but the products reference each other! not satisfied at all.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from It's exactly like paint stripper!! I used the Tremclad paint spray on my vtt and after a couple of layer I wanted to use a resistant clear coat. I used the clear Tremclad and it was a disaster. First of all, the clear is too liquid. It was not perfect but I could live with that BUT, after 15 mins the paint started to crack exactly like when you are using paint stripper. I was able to remove all the paint with mu finger. It completely ruined my project. I will try to contact the company to be refunded.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Flat Black is good to renew garden structures I renewed some flower pots and a light post in the front garden. It’s very easy to use this product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works on lots of different materials If you have something that’s not the color black, this will help you achieve your goal of making it black. Have something that used to be black, but is no longer black? This is the product you need. It will make it even blacker. This paint is not too shiny and not too matte, so if that’s what your after, look no further. Black paint matters.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Nozzle clogs too easily I've bought this Tremclad paint twice now and both times the nozzle clogged half-way through using it - then paint starts coming out under the nozzle. The remainder of the paint is trapped inside the can. I tried cleaning the nozzle with Acetone and it will work for a while but then clogs again. The paint that you can get out seems okay, but I'll never buy it again until they can make a nozzle that won't clog after a few minutes of use.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Sore hand! But trellisses look beautiful. The product is great, but I have two negatives to mention. The trim clad brand does not seem to contain the same amount as other brands, I mean it runs out fairly quickly. The other thing is it still has that skinny little button to press, which is pretty tough on arthritic hands.

Would this be recommended for windshield wiper arms or is there a better option? And does it require a primer?

Which clear coat is best to use with this paint? All i thought is i could use any, but i got worried because 2 of the reviewers mentioned that the same brand of clear coat stripped all the paint that they did.

Asked by: Ivan
Hi Ivan, We recommend using our Tremclad Oil-Based Rust Paint clear coat. You can apply your clear coat within the hour of your last coat. If you pass the hour mark, you will need to wait at least 48 hours or more before applying the clear or wrinkling will occur.

Hi Mike, Yes, our Oil-Based Rust Paint can be applied to a steel frame to prevent it from rusting. If the steel is severely pitted or sandblasted, you can apply our Tremclad Red or Grey Primer first.

Is this low odor enough to be applied indoors in a well ventilated area? I have some rust appearing on 2k clear coated raw steel lobby bench legs and wanted to try to fix it up but am worried it would be too toxic smelling for residents.

Asked by: Elizabeth
yes.  I have used this on many indoor metal light fixtures, etc.  best if you can use it outdoors.  it does have a fairly strong odour during application.  so have open windows and a fan that vents to the outside, if you spray inside.  however, it does dry pretty quickly and then the coating itself doesn't smell.  it's the odour in the air that linger's, but with good ventilation it is usually gone in several  hours.
