Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good product but be aware We bought this decking for a brand new deck and had hired a contractor to install it. The decking itself is nice to walk on and, although it does get hot in the sun, it is not unbearable. All in all, the look of the decking is nice and we are happy with the visual results. Some things that we were not aware of and were not expecting. Expansion and contraction. This deck is noisy. As it warms up in the morning, it creaks constantly until it equalizes. Then, in the evening as it cools, it starts the cycle again. We never had this issue with our previous all-wood deck so it was a surprise. The noise aside, the decking itself does not seem overly affected by the expansion/contraction except for an change in the gap between the butt joints. Online forums say that this noise is greatly reduced after a year. The fascia DID expand a lot! The installer butted the ends together but when the fascia expanded, it actually caused the two ends to push against each other and away from the deck about an inch. The installer adjusted the length of the fascia in order to remove this issue. The other unfortunate thing is static shocks. Walking on the deck and then touching either the house door-handle or the railing will produce an annoying static shock. Readings online have said that this aspect dissipates over time. Overall, we are happy with the product. Even had we known about the noise, the expansion, or the static, we would still have gone ahead with the installation but it would have been nice to know about these possible issues in advance. We are looking forward to not having to deal with staining a wooden deck.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Product Overall happy with the product quality and service from Home Depot. Product was easy to work with as a DIY project. Of note, there are aftermarket fasteners available that work as good as or in some cases better than the more expensive Trex brand fasteners.

What is needed for installation of the boards? Do installation materials come with the boards or are they purchased separately?

Asked by: dfran
Hello Dfran, You will need a pressure treated base to install the composite deck boards, the grooved boards require clips and screws. All materials are purchased separately. Please see installation guide at trex.com for further details.

Can this be used on a mod bit roof deck?

Asked by: Paddieme
Hello, we recommend our product be installed onto a joist system or sleeper system. We would caution against using this directly onto a solid surface or a watertight surface as this will prevent the product from getting the proper air flow. Additionally, we recommend a minimum of 1-1/2" between the bottom of the boards and the solid surface below them. I hope this helps answer your question. You can use the following link to take you to our recommended installation guidelines as well. https://online.flippingbook.com/view/63974767/
