It's only a 1 feet sample item but the product can be used in a variety of ways. I'm currently using it as a small shelf space item on my wall. It can hold small books and other treasured items. It is not large enough or sturdy enough to hold televisions or full-size stereo systems but it can hold small computer speakers. The nature of this material is faux wood. I definitely think the item will hold up with time and I sincerely think the manufacturer of this item will improve the material in the future. I love this item!

The quality of this board is superior to any type decking material that I have ever seen. It has a luxurious grain and a grayish look to it. It is also very thick and durable, and best yet, splinter free and won't fade. It can also be washed clean with soap and water. Yippee, no more deck staining!! I really can't wait to have my deck re-done using this quality material. This is a must see item as the picture does not do it justice. It really is an outstanding, luxurious looking board.

I need to redo my 3 decks soon and have been comparing boards and finishes. This board from Trex Trancend protects against rot, warp, splinters and termites. Plus, Trex composite decking is backed by a 25-year limited residential fade & stain warranty, so the color you see today is the same you’ll enjoy for decades. These boards are made with 95% recycled materials which makes them eco friendly and a fact that I love! I also love the look of woodgrain and the durabilty of this product. I do believe I have made my choice and can not wait to see this on my decks!

It seems heavy and seems durable, but when you look at the back side and edges, it appears to only be pressed wood. There is a very thin top layer for the look and I wish it was somewhat deeper. Hopefully this board is treated in some way, so that it lasts a long time. I don’t know how long it will last once the weather gets to it. It doesn’t look like much protection against water. Overall great color and seems pretty solid, just worried about how long this will hold up.

I received a sample of the Trex- Transcend Island Mist Deck Board and I fell in love with it. The idea of never having to sand, stain or paint a deck again is wonderful. Since the deck is located in an area that gets the hot afternoon sun I left the board outside and unlike wood, it did not get so hot that you are unable to walk on it. I also spilled food and beverages on it and it was very easy to clean with no staining.

The board is heavy, seems quite sturdy, and looks well made. The inside looks like composite, and the coating is what I believe is the wood look material. I walked over this with bare feet as well, and it didn't provide the feeling of splintering that sometimes happens with real wood. I love that the color was permeated throughout the whole sample piece. My only concern would be that the decking has exposed composite, if it were to be cut, would this composite rot or become stained? The color was also very nice. It was chosen as a compliment to my home's exterior. It matches quite well.

I would imagine it will wear quite well. It does scratch (like wood), but the scratch doesn't have much of an impact on its appearance because it's the same color all the way through. The one possible negative is its weight -- very heavy. Which will not be a big deal for new construction, but having the proper support for an entire deck of this product would be something to consider when replacing a wood deck.

Hello, If the decking is at a 90 degree angle than the joist spanning is 16`` on center. Yes the square edged boards can be used for stairs. If your using the hidden fasters than you can either face screw the boards or route the boards to accept the fasteners. I hope you found this information helpful.
