Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent off-grid cook stove So far I am very pleased with my Uniq gas stove. I live in a rural area where winter power outages are fairly common, so being able to operate the stove without BC Hydro power is important. (It replaced an electric cookstove, so prior to the Uniq I had to cook on or in the woodstove when the power was out.) The stove fits perfectly in a standard 30 inch cutout. The build quality is pretty good -- not what stoves were in the 50's, but sturdier than some modern ones. I like the "restaurant" look and feel with continuous cooking surface made up of very skookum solid metal grilles. No need to lift heavy pans, they can be slid from burner to burner. There are no fragile, fussy electronics (no LCD display, clock, electronic timers, programming, push buttons etc) -- just ignition and gas control for the burners. I appreciate the simplicity. The stove top is not difficult to clean, as the sturdy grilles lift out easily. My oven thermometer says that the oven thermostat is extremely accurate. In fact, I have to think a bit to come up with any complaints about this appliance :-) The knobs are mounted facing outwards (their axes are horizontal) so it is possible to trigger the piezo ignition if you lean against the stove while reaching for something on a kitchen shelf above it. This is harmless (just a tick-tick noise and a bit of battery drain) but it might have been more elegant to mount the knobs at 45 degrees or upright as I have seen in some other mfrs models. Lighting the oven from cold is a bit ticklish and (for me, new owner) means getting on the floor and peering into the broiler to make sure the pilot has lit properly. However once the pilot is lit, the oven lights up and shuts off just as one would expect with no fuss. If I baked frequently, I would just leave the pilot on full-time. The stove design (broiler below burner, baking above) means that there is no pot and pan storage drawer as one finds in many electric stoves with dual elements. However, I never found that storage very convenient anyway and have had no difficulty finding other homes for broiler pans, baking tins etc.

Where does the gas line attach to this stove? Is there a pressure regulator at the point of gas line attachment?

Asked by: Mike82
On the Unique 30” Classic Range, the gas line attaches at the back of the stove directly into the regulator.
