Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works as intended I did a full strip and refinish. Once you get the thickness of each coat down it goes on fine. Used the varathane applicator. Ensure to mix extremely well, mine had a ton of solids settled at the bottom of the can. I didn't realize this on my first can and ended up with a lot of waste on the first go. Still turned out great. Did 4 rooms, appx 1000 sq ft and used 4 gallons. 3 coats in 3 rooms, 2 coats in a lesser used room. One thing I would change next time is better scuff sanding and dust removal after the first coat. This is a critical step and I did end up with some dust particles.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great top coat I like that finish I use it to seal and protect all my chalk paint projects... I have repainted a bedroom set, a desk and a bathroom vanity all holding up excellent to every day use. I usually do 2 coats and I wait at least a day before I apply the second coat. Works well for me,,, I use sponges to apply.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love this product It is hard to find a quality water-based clear coat for furniture. This is it!! Lovely barely-there sheen and no brush strokes!! The only issue is I have to drive 200km to pick it up as my local Home Depot fails to keep it in stock.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Soft and Scratches Easily Feels like soft plastic, and scratches very easily. Gently rubbing a fingernail on it to test the surface hardness, and it scrapes right off without much effort. Other objects resting on the table left deep marks. Very disappointed.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from This is one of the worst wood finishing products I've ever used. The spray from the can is not properly atomized, and comes out in uncontrolled large droplets rather than a mist. The large drops land on the project and quickly dry into uneven dots. Subsequent sprays don't improve it and simply add to the poor finish. If you spray enough material to form a film, the film does not self-level and sets into an uneven, botchy finish. Don't waste your money and time!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not sure? Thought I properly followed instructions for this product, but now after several days of drying the clear Matt finish is easily scratching off like a thin wax coat. Was is something I did improperly? How do I safely remove this finish now without damaging the stain? Disappointed and need help.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great matte finish I've used this product for years, primarily on distressed or antiqued items to avoid adding any sheen to them. Fast drying, light coats.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from shed flooring well I came across this product not really sure what the outcome would be but I decided to give it a try. I used it on my shed to give it a garage look. I applied it with a roller then used a brush to get rid of small bubbles from the thick coat. The end result was great Fast Dry No yellowing Great shine

Do i have to sand between coats? And will it be dry enough for me to walk on to recoat since its an entire upstairs?
Asked by: Chasity
According to the back of the pail, if you apply the second coat within 12 hours then you don't have to sand. I waited overnight and ended up sanding lightly and had a good result.

I thought I followed proper directions for this product but after several days the clear coat is scratching off like a thin wax coating on the stained table top, how do I properly remove the finish coat now without damaging stain finish?

Asked by: Jennyk123
Hi Jennyk123, We're sorry to hear about this! While the finish can be handled after a few hours, it can take between 7-14 days for full cure hardness, depending on how many coats were applied. Sanding will be the best option to remove the finish. However, you should still be careful not to remove the stain underneath.

How long after second coat application would I have to wait with my family in order to move in the house without fumes.

I have a newborn at home.
Asked by: Greg
Hi Greg, thank you for reaching out! Our Varathane Oil-Based Floor Finish Polyurethane is ready for light foot traffic once the final coat has dried for at least 24 hours, and normal foot traffic can resume after 72 hours. Since this is a solvent-based coating, there is a solvent odor, that will dissipate as the polyurethane cures. Air movement and ventilation from fans and windows will help this odor dissipate more quickly. While a slight odor may remain for several days, the solvents will have evaporated and dissipated after the polyurethane has cured for three days. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 2

can this be used on a painted floor?

Asked by: keith
As a matter of fact, 45 years ago, I painted an area around two rugs and then used the polyurethane on it. It looked great for 25 years when we installed oak floors.

I'm going to use this for refinish hardwood floor, but wondering if I can directly apply this right after I use the sander to remove old painting. Thanks

Asked by: maggie
I'm assuming you mean without any additional staining. I used this after sanding as a final top coat and just kept the natural colour of the wood. I suggest getting a floor finish applicator to make the job easier.

Hi a couple questions. Is this suitable for bare pine tongue and groove walls and ceiling? Can this be sprayed? What is the appropriate respirator for spraying this?

Asked by: bert
Hi bert, Yes, our Premium Wood Finish for Interior is suitable for bare pine tongue and groove walls. It can be sprayed with a standard compressed air, HVLP Turbin or HVLP Conversion sprayer. A respiratory protection program that meets OSHA 1910.134 and ANSI Z88.2 requirements must be followed whenever workplace conditions warrant a respirator's use.
