I do a lot of woodworking in my shop and there are times when you have blemishes in the wood that you are using to make some item. Color matching is always a challenge and concern when using a wood putty to fill a blemish. This product has a consistent color in the jar and when applied to the wood. It was easy to use, easy to clean up and dried to a consistent color. I have this product in many different colors and have been happy with all of them. I buy this product on a regular basis. The wood putty was a bit red for the cherry wood I was working with, if not quite a bit red really. It certainly flowed on smoothly onto the wood, but also smeared when applied with a putty knife. It stained it some, from the putty. It will not take a wood stain, it stays soft, but applying of some Danish Oil the wood still looked good. It is okay, comes in a lot of colors and would have been better if I could have mixed several colors together to get the results I would have liked. I had an old small side table with some small nicks and I wanted something that would fill in the nicks and match the color of the wood so I decided to try this cherry wood putty by Varathane. First I made sure the surface was clean and than I rubbed a small amount of the putty into the various nicks, wiped off the excess and that was it. I was very happy with the results. This is just the right color for my wood baseboards, window sills, doors frames cabinets etc. I have used these wood fillers before and even though the instructions state the putty never dries, Ithink over time it does. I have used it for filling small holes and even flat areas that have been gouged and it has worked very well. My only complaint is that once opened one needs to use the entire container as it dries up pretty fast in the jar and the next time one goes to use it, it may be dried up, will see with this brand. It is pliable, it can be formed and used with a putty knife or just plug a hole dabbing it with your finger. Good stuff for doing minor wood repairs.
