Rated 3 out of 5 by from A Real Expensive Ongoing Headache Even though I used the tape provided, I also used spray foam insulation around the base of the pipe and fashioned a vapour barrier collar over that which I then taped to the ceiling vapour barrier. I then sprayed the entire surface of the tube with Flex-seal. Then I added 10" of sprayed-in fiberglass insulation for the entire attic. The dome still fills up with condensation and drips down the tunnel and lands on the lens below.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Blue light...not natural or white We bought this because it was less time from start to finish than a regular skylight. Overall it would have been great but only if the light was actually natural light. It is a blue light that makes our small bathroom glow, not what I expected. I wish now that we had gone with a regular skylight, it may have taken more time but it would have given us the window and light we have always wanted. Now it is a perpetual full moon glow.

Not a roofing company in the city will look at because, in their words, once these things start leaking there’s no fixing it except by installing a new one or covering over the hole.

How much area will the ten inch tube light?

How long of a tunnel can you run?

The 10” Rigid Sun Tunnel comes with 4’ of tunnel (a 2’ section and 2 elbows) in the box. Additional extensions can be used for longer runs. For the 10” Sun Tunnel, you can go to a maximum recommended length of 20’. Though the ZTR 010 02 (2 feet) may be available in store, also available through special order are boxes with 4 feet (ZTR 010 04) and 6 feet (ZTR 010 06). Mix and match to get the run length you need.

Is horizontal installation possible?

Thank you for your question. All tubular skylights are designed to perform in a vertical application. When installed vertically, even with angles, any humidity within the tunnel rises and escapes through integrated gaskets. In a horizontal position, humidity would likely become trapped, condense and pool. Should this water stay trapped, it could result in damage or promote mold. When installed in the horizontal, we cannot guarantee performance. Perhaps there is another solution for the room you have in mind, as the roof and ceiling sections do not need to be lined up. Can this be used in apartments?

Good question – Thank you asking. This will depend on the type of apartment. The Sun Tunnel is a skylight, and needs access to roofing above. If there is another apartment above, unfortunately this will not be an option.

Do you recommend this light on a metal cottage roof? The cottage is not winterized. Also, there is about 2' between the ceiling of the cottage bathroom and the roof. Is the tube long enough?
