Rated 3 out of 5 by from Solar post cap Attractive looking cap for 4x4 post purchased in fall 2020. Solar powered bulb emits a bright white. Rating of 3 because the short duration of emitted light, hoping that duration increases with longer daylight hours and battery charge time through Spring and Summer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I am really pleased with these clips Several reviewers have complained about the clips being too tight or too loose. This is due to shrinkage or swelling of the 2x4. I had one piece of lumber that as too tight on one end and too loose on the other. If too loose, no worries, the back screws do most of the initial holding. The side and end screws press the clip tight. If too tight, sand the edges a bit and tap the clip on. The plastic is very tough and will take the pounding. One reviewer commented about the required 1/2" less rail length to allow for the thickness of these clips and suggested to allow 7/16" for a tighter fit. I measured the clips with a Vernier caliper and they are exactly 1/2". So measure the space between posts accurately, allow for your own skill in measuring and subtract 1/2". You'll be fine. The real problem I had was that my posts were twisted and hence the rails were up to 6º off perpendicular. I made appropriate final fitting using a belt sander. And even with this slight angle, the clips were still just fine. Finally I want to say that my railing design was to have a top cap all around. I discovered that rather than using the two sided variety of this clip for this purpose, I was able to cleanly cut away the side without the screw hole to make a flush-fitting 3 sided clip. The plastic cuts easily without shattering on a table saw with a regular carbide blade. See photos

Hi, Can we install the balusters directly in drilled holes in micro sienna treated wood without the plastic caps? If so, why would be the reason to use the plastic cap as the balusters are painted aluminum and will not rust?

Asked by: Danny
Hi Danny, thanks for your question. Even though MicroPro Sienna is far less corrosive than ACQ treated lumber we still recommend using the caps provided. Further, the balusters themselves would be too small in diameter to get a secure fit. Thanks Danny, please feel free to give us a call directly at 877-883-7325 should you have any additional questions.

Can these remain outside during winter? I am worried about them cracking in the -20˚C cold.

So, it keeps saying to use pre-drilled rails sold separately. Can you please add a link to these in the product page, or is that a bad idea? Also, if I have to sign in to ask a question, why are you asking for my email again lol?

Asked by: Ask a silly question
When I purchased these balusters, I did not buy the pre-drilled rails. I used my drill press and measured the depth I needed to put the plastic plug into and drilled my own 2x4. Don’t hold me to it but I believe the size of drill bit you need will be a 13/16 spade bit and the black plastic plugs will fit perfectly into your drilled holes. And then the metal balusters will fit into the plug. It’s more work to do it yourself but it does save some money

Just purchased these for our fence posts.  I am wondering if you can replace the light bulb with a warmer colour?  All of our other up lighting in our gardens are warm white, and these ones are very cool in colour and do not match.

Asked by: Nsherk
These are 5mm white LEDs soldered onto a mini circuit board. You can replace the LEDs only if you have electronics knowledge and able to do delicate soldering. The short answer is no.
