Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fit perfect look great I installed about 35 ft of railing and we did not want a cap as we live across from a park, so we installed the closed bracket on the top and bottom for a nice finish. We were using the pro pack of railings so we had to buy the clips anyway. The caps fit perfect on the pre-drilled wood that is sold as part of the railing system. - we are very pleased with the result, looks really spart

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I am really pleased with these clips Several reviewers have complained about the clips being too tight or too loose. This is due to shrinkage or swelling of the 2x4. I had one piece of lumber that as too tight on one end and too loose on the other. If too loose, no worries, the back screws do most of the initial holding. The side and end screws press the clip tight. If too tight, sand the edges a bit and tap the clip on. The plastic is very tough and will take the pounding. One reviewer commented about the required 1/2" less rail length to allow for the thickness of these clips and suggested to allow 7/16" for a tighter fit. I measured the clips with a Vernier caliper and they are exactly 1/2". So measure the space between posts accurately, allow for your own skill in measuring and subtract 1/2". You'll be fine. The real problem I had was that my posts were twisted and hence the rails were up to 6º off perpendicular. I made appropriate final fitting using a belt sander. And even with this slight angle, the clips were still just fine. Finally I want to say that my railing design was to have a top cap all around. I discovered that rather than using the two sided variety of this clip for this purpose, I was able to cleanly cut away the side without the screw hole to make a flush-fitting 3 sided clip. The plastic cuts easily without shattering on a table saw with a regular carbide blade. See photos

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Very tight fit... The clips are difficult to install on even slightly swollen 2x4 lumber (PT or cedar). Best to dry lumber a few days at lower humidity or at least keep it dry before installing... I used an orbital sander with 80 grit sand paper to lightly bevel each end of the 2x4 before hammering the clip on. The clip could have been 1/8th of an inch larger... Instructions say to remove an extra 1/2 inch from the lumber to allow space for the clip on each side. I removed a little less (7/16th) for a better fit. A couple of the screws provided (on 20 sets) had defects that rendered them useless (i.e. head clogged with metal or deformation). In these cases I used regular deck screws in the hidden part of the clip (center/middle holes). The clip does solidly secure the rail to post!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from So easy to use and solid as a rock Other reviews have mentioned the sizing was a bit too tight, but mine were like they were custom fit for my rails (just cedar from the lumber yard, no special rail system). I'm not sure if there's been a change to the mold or something, but out of 26 pairs of these on my project, only one set was too tight. I suspect that the one rail was oversize or wet and that's why the brackets were tight. A quick couple of scrubs on the rail end with a sanding block took care of the issue. The clips look really professional and do a great job of holding that rails in place. They're strong, and have kept the rail from twisting so far. My only grief about them is the cost. I wish they were a little bit less money, but then you can say that about a lot of things. They work well, are quick and easy to use, and on my deck they added a nice visual element at the bottom of the railings.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from When they fit they are great, however... I used these clips on green pressure treated 2x4s. More often than not the studs would not fit into the clips (wood too big, clips too small). The solution was to beat the edges of the 2x4s in with another piece wood rounding them off. When that didn’t work I had to trim the edges off. Eventually I had to switch to the open ended clips. They probably would have worked well with 2x4s that were aged a bit and shrinkage had occurred.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works as expected! Just used these to install my top and bottom rails for my deck. Others seemed to have issues with fitment, but they worked just perfectly for my 2x4 pressure treated wood. The fitment is tight, but with a few seconds of making sure they're going on straight, they worked wonderfully and keep the rails absolutely solid.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Clips worked well The 6 foot kit has one set of clips so if you need to cut the 6 foot rail into 2 shorter sections, you need an extra set of clips. These were a little tight on dry wood but was able to seat them with a mallet, It is worth noting this DOES include the screws which the product description does not mention. The finish is a little shinier than the original clips.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Does not fit a standard PT 2x4 These are too small to fit over the end of a standard 2x4. Clearly meant for a rail system of some kind, but not for standard dimension lumber.
