can i use this for my small cedar trees?

Yes you can use the spikes on small cedar . Pi have used them for years and my cedars are beautiful and bushy and tend not to loose their foliage as fast

What happens if your drip line is on your lawn (grass)and not in the mulch or soil around your tree? Can the spikes be placed in your lawn without damaging your lawn?

I have the drip line going from tree to tree and insert the spikes under the outline of its canopy where the grass does not grow or hardly grow anyway. Beside the spikes fo not contain enough hydrogen to kill the grass anyway.
