The electricity to the light feeds through the cables that hang the two different levels, so you can not cut them to make them shorter. It was a puzzle as to how to get them untangled and keep them that way while trying to hang this on a 12 foot ceiling. If I had to guess, we hung it 3 feet below the ceiling, but there was about 10 feet of cable. You need three people to hang this light! But it is beautiful and I love it!!!

The fixture VMC31710BL is height adjustable, therefore you can modify the height to the needs of your room. Some very important points to remember before the installation: DO NOT CUT WIRES attached to the fixture under any circumstance. Excess cable should be neatly looped and tucked into the canopy. Cable locking pin allow the suspension height to be easily changed post-install. Can this fixture be hung on a sloped ceiling with or without an adapter?

Susan, we don't provide any special brackets other than the regular bracket the fixture comes with. Please review the installation instructions that can be uploaded from the website, here is to copy into the browser: https://images.homedepot-static.com/catalog/pdfImages/38/3871e924-26e7-4eb1-848b-5919cf332daa.pdf As to the slopped ceiling installation: you can absolutely install the fixture onto the slopped ceiling and then adjust the wires accordingly, so the fixture is leveled to the floor surface. Please note the canopy will be installed under the angle of your slopped ceiling. The each wire of the fixture is adjustable and can be lengthen or shortened through the small buttons located on the canopy. MOST IMPORTANTLY do not cut wires under any circumstances. Please adjust the length through the buttons and excess cables tuck into inside of the canopy. If you need to readjust the length a little, it can be done post installation through the same buttons. You will need to make sure they are not tightened too tight in the canopy, so you can move them up/down.
