Rated 3 out of 5 by from good but..... When snow melts higher up on the roof the water will refreeze on the roof at the cold eves and make a dam and/or icicles. These will melt paths thru the dam for this water to continue flowing and not make a dam bigger and possibly causing water to back up under the shingles and into the house.. BUT the clips this kit comes with have two pointed tabs pointing up and they are for piercing your shingles to anchor the clip. This is just wrong I know the holes are small but really? pierce my shingles???. If you buy them make sure your putting them on in the warm weather and your shingles are pliable so you can lift them up 1/4 inch to slide the clip under. There are other kits whose clips are just clips that slide onto the tab of the shingle.

Can you use an extension cord with this product?

Asked by: Anonymous
The manufacturer recommends that you not use extension cords. Seems to me that there might be proper ways to use them - three-wire cords with a wire gauge sufficient for the current required and the distances involved, drip loops protecting connections and in-use protected exterior GFCI outlets. Not recommending, I'm just saying ...

can roof and gutter de-icing cables be left on all winter?

Asked by: Anonymous
Theoretically. Might want to consider the ROOF GUARD Roof Sentry De-Icing Cable Control, Model: 14600 | Store SKU: 1000171166 to save energy and, theoretically, extend the life of the de-icing cable. If you elect to control the cable manually you'll need to be around, alert, and motivated when melting/re-freezing conditions begin and end.

are the cable clips included? Can the cable be cut into 2 lengths if properly terminated.

I need one 40 ft and one 30 ft long. Do you sell cable clips for metal roofing seperately?
Asked by: Anonymous
Other manufacturers - one is Pentair - make de-icing cable that can be cut to length. Waterline cable can NOT be cut. Period.

Is there a thermostat control available for this product?

Asked by: Anonymous
Yes, it's the ROOF GUARD Roof Sentry De-Icing Cable Control Model: 14600 | Store SKU: 1000171166 and it's better than just a thermostat: it senses air temperature and moisture presence. The idea is that the cable only needs energizing when snow/ice are melting and re-freezing, so the controller energizes the cable when BOTH air temperature hovers around freezing and there is moisture on the roof and/or in the eaves troughs.
