This permitted my family to exit to the garage, but prevented re-entry without a key. I made a decision, based on safety to ensure that nobody would be locked out unless they meant to lock it when leaving. Not to mention that this is a very nice looking and well built piece of hardware.

How is the black finish as far as scratching, weather resistant (minus 40), and fading?  Is the satin nickel finish a better choice?

Weiser finishes are tested for durability in all weather conditions. Additionally, a new Weiser product is backed by a Lifetime Finish and Mechanical Warranty to the original purchaser as long as you own the lock.

Can these be keyed alike for multiple entry sets?

Yes, any Weiser locks with a SmartKey cylinder can be keyed alike to a K1 or K5 key.

Using for an entry from house to garage. I want to ensure that I know the door is locked before leaving the house and inadvertently locking myself out. Does this set have that feature?

To ensure the knob is locked, make sure that the interior turn piece is turned vertically before you close the door. If you prefer it to be unlocked, make sure the turn piece is in the horizontal position.

Can I use the same key for both the Cambie Keyed Entry Knob and the low profile Grade 1 Uptown Deadbolt?

Yes, since the Cambie knob features SmartKey security, you can re-key this knob to the same key as the Uptown deadbolt by using the SmartKey tool and following the SmartKey re-Key instructions.
