This deadbolt was easy to install, EXCEPT that it didn't come with the plunger we needed (without a flange) -- even though the box indicated that everything required was included, including all three types of plungers. That required a phone call to Weiser, who sent out the required plunger free of charge (unless I needed it taster, in which case they were going to charge me for shipping —I was not impressed, in light of the box and instructions indicating the required plunger was included). At any rate, the deadbolt itself was easy to install (once we received the required plunger) and the re-keying was super-easy. And it looks pretty smart, too.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Misleading Description Contrary to the description and the box, this lock is not universal out of the box. If you want to install it in a steel door where you need a drive in type lock, you have to call Weiser and wait two weeks for them to ship the parts to do that. Very disappointed that this would not be more clearly labelled or that the adapter ring is not included. I recommend you open the box as soon as you get it in case you need to call Weiser to get additional parts to fit your door.

Note: The deadbolt arrives with only one style of core. So if you need a core for a metal door, you just need to call Weiser and they ship it to you. The service team is excellent and the product is great, but be aware there is an additional wait for the metal door core to arrive in the mail. Worth the wait.

Purchased several locks for my house only to find I could not re-key them to my standard Weiser key because it was too thick to insert into the new lock. Took my old key to Home Depot to have it cut onto a Weiser smart key blank. Home Depot do not stock smart key blanks nor to other hardware stores or locksmiths in my area.

Remove?

I have this lock.. uses a key on both sides.. I would like to replace it.. but have no idea how to get the old one off... any ideas?

On the interior portion of the lock there is a cover plate that has to be (gently) popped off with a flat head screw driver, once this is done it will expose the screws that hold the lock in place. Please see attached document for further info (section 3).

Weiser deadbolts come with 2 keys in each package. If you wish to add more there is a SmartKey Rekey Kit that is available in Home Depot stores. You can simply rekey your lock in seconds without having to take it off the door or call a locksmith!

Smart Key re-keying error

I tried to re-key a Weiser deadbolt with Smart Key, and obviously did it wrong. Now neither key works. Is there a way to re-set it to the original?

There is a way to reset the lock. The Home Depot store where you purchased your lock can use what's called a 'Reset Cradle' to reset the lock. Simply take it in and someone in the hardware department can help you out.

I rekeyed the Weiser smartkey lock on the garage to match the front door. When I then used the key on the front door, the garage doesn't work anymore

This situation could be a result of the key not being fully inserted into the cylinder during the rekeying process. The good news is that this can be fixed. If you bring the lock back to any Home Depot store they can reset it for you.

Is it possible to buy a Weiser deadbolt lock for an added door to match the deadbolt key on an existing door deadbolt (Weiser) purchased 2 years ago.

If the old one is SmartKey and the new one is also SmartKey then likely you can change either lock so that one key fits. Just follow the instructions. Call Weiser to confirm this. HOWEVER. Before purchasing any SmartKey locks get a locksmith's opinion of them and then Google the Internet for known problems with SmartKey locks. I got these locks because the ability to "rekey" was attractive. Now that I know the problem with these locks, I am sorry I installed them. Buyer beware. (I believe the other brand carrying these also has same problems).

What size Key fits in this? I am moving and want to keep my previous house key, which is also a Weiser lock. Paid a lot for specialized Disney keys, so would rather not have to spend again. :)
