It's hard to read except in the brightest light. The menu items need to be adjusted upon arrival, because the idle setting is less than a couple of minutes, so the tip temp drops back immediately. There needs to be an L.E.D. to indicate power on and temp rise, because the display is hard to read. There is no manual available for service issues. The irons from the model 51 should fit this unit (NA model), but they do not. Connector is wired incompatibly. I'm used to tested and improved Weller items, so this one is a bit difficult to accept. For casual use, it's fine, but I'd consider other options for rework use like I need.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I wish I had something like this years ago. I've done lots of work and projects with soldering guns and soldering irons. This complete station is perfect for any number of different soldering projects, either repair or new. No more fiddling with on/off segments to avoid overheating the tip. Get precise temperatures for any soldering project be it printed circuits, wiring, hobby/craft use. The temperature readings are digital and can be displayed either Fahrenheit or Celsius. You can dial in the temperature you need and there's also a standby feature for up to 99 minutes. The tip heats quickly and tips are easily switched out.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is my first digital soldering station. It replaces a nine year old 50 watt analog soldering station also made by Weller that has seen a lot of use. The new soldering station offers precise setting of the tip temperature to the nearest degree and the extra power means that the tip reaches the temperature much faster. Most important to me is the ability to return to the exact same setting for doing repeat work. This soldering system will speed up my new electronic projects.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This soldering station is very nice.Excellent quality.Large readout and easy to handle iron. The temperature range is very vast and it gets up to temperature pretty quickly! It was easy to assemble and comes with everything you need.I like it because it is precise in the temperature and heats up quickly. The point is extra long so it can handle a wide variety of jobs. This soldering iron is definitely an upgrade from my previous iron.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is an very good soldering iron. And for the price, it is excellent. Simple set up. A five point plug with a guide pin to ensure it goes in the right way and a lock nut to hold it in place. Plug in, set temperature based on job and go. Ridiculously fast to get to heat setpoint. Holds heat on a big job (soldering speaker leads). Good tip that can be replaced. Very happy to have this in my shop!

I would definitely recommend this product, but after an inspection of the box and product, It seems as though this was a used and returned item that HD decided not to mark as such and sold to me at full MSRP. Don't buy online. Make sure you see this product on the shelf before making a purchase, because you won't necessarily know whether Home Depot is trying to rip you off on a returned item unless you're there to physically inspect the product.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I got this digital soldering station to replace my aging Weller TC202 power unit with TC201 soldering iron. I don’t think that I will soon part with the TC202/TC201, but with the ability to dial in the tip temperature I expect that I will use the old iron only sporadically. So far I’ve used this new iron to solder wires to pins and sockets on a signal connector, starting with a temperature setting just below the melting temperature of SnPb solder (370°F) and increasing it to about 10° past the setting where the solder begins to melt. So far this has helped me to solder without damaging the plastic plugs in the connectors. The iron heats quickly and is comfortable to hold. The printed operators manual weighs in at 116 pages and 27 languages, but only 13 of the pages are of use for English-language readers. Frankly, the instructions are not nearly as good as those that were written for my old Weller soldering station. Most disappointing to me is that the manual doesn’t provide part numbers for replacement parts or for tips.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This Weller Digital Soldering Station is by far the best I have ever owned. The soldering iron is not heavy but it just has a feel of good balance and sturdy construction. It lays in your hand very comfortably. The included stand is very well designed to safely hold the iron in between soldering tasks. What really amazed me was how fast the soldering iron heats up. I removed it from the well designed box it was packaged it and set it up. I plugged it in and the set temperature was 720 degrees. The thing got to that 720 degrees it seemed like in just seconds. And to be able to set your desired temperature and have it hold the temperature is very cool indeed. This Weller makes my other soldering irons a thing of the past. The only thing that I was not to impressed with was the owners manual. It had a few pictures on how to operate it but I felt they weren't very clear. And the one page of written help really did not cover the use of it at all. And that is why only four stars.

It doesn't include a power cord? Shocking! (Pun intended.)
Asked by: MA
My unit did include a US power cord. The power connector socket on the back of the base uses an IPS(?) socket common to almost all computers (for example), so you can substitute that kind of cord if needed.

I am concerned about what looks like a plastic soldering sleeve knob that hold the sleeve for the tips to the heating element. Plastic and heat don't mix. Bit of a concern about it melting or cracking over time. How well does this hold up over time and use?
Asked by: Robert
The black ring / knob between the handle and metal part of the soldering iron is made of a material that is designed to hold up in high heat applications. It holds up very well and won't melt or crack. The black ring / knob purpose is to allow the user to easily twist off the main soldering element from the handle.

Is this UL-Listed, or does it have other safety certifications?

How do you store extra tips? They do not fit in the holes in the station.
