Installation was easy but a receptacle will have to be installed in the cupboard above, there is no option for hard-wiring it using your old range hood wiring. The inside of the microwave is very large and there are lots of built-in presets for defrosting, reheating etc. The only downside is that the light on the bottom of microwave that shines down on the stove is at the rear of the microwave, instead of the front, and it is not very bright (small 40W incandescent appliance bulb) and replacing it with an LED bulb is not recommended.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Value on Sale This microwave replaced a 16 year old 1.7 cu ft Whirlpool with similar features but in black. The microwave looks sleek and the bright blue display is nice. The microwave is 1" higher than my old one, the fan is 80 CFM stronger and the filters are placed in different areas. The fan is okay, but could be stronger. I think the unit could be made smaller. It is easy to operate (I generally re-heat and do not use pre-sets) and on sale, it is excellent value. The lighting could be better positioned to illuminate the cooktop and the keypad shows every fingerprint (as does the SS finish). I just hope it lasts. Aren't we all wondering why newer appliances don't?

I installed it myself with ease. I had an over the range microwave in place that stopped heating food. One of the immediate features I did like is that the door does is a soft close, no large noise from pressure required to shut the door. In store I asked that the over the range fan be turned on and found it was quieter next to other units. The install was very straight forward due to templates that could be placed on the upper cabinet base and the back wall plate. Once the templates were in place, I simply drilled through the designated areas described in the install manual and drawings on the templates. The registration if our otr microwave was fast and simple. Navigation online was simple and easy to follow through. After a week of use we are very pleased with our purchase.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Terrible build quality. This microwave came with my new house 4 years ago, I’ve had it “repaired” under warranty 3 times in the first year for a “ DOOR” error. In 4 years, I have now had this product looked at by 4 different “technicians” and the “DOOR” error still comes up rendering the microwave useless. I will be replacing it with a different brand, that has better build quality and better technicians.

Every time you cook anything that might smoke a bit this ventilation does absolutely NOTHING to help but use hydro. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY.

And one thing I can't stand is a busy panel when all I want to do is nuke last night's dinner for a minute or two. So I appreciate the simplicity of my Whirlpool and couldn't be happier. Conveniently, my parents also use the same model as mine and had the exact same feedback. So take it from a whirlpool family. It's simple, spacious, and fits perfectly in with my lifestyle. Shout out to Whirlpool for making a great product.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not even a year old and it doesnt work just sparks This was installed in my unit 8 months ago and was initially working fine but this week I noticed the food wouldn't warm up as quickly and it would should like during microwaving time it would shut off warming and turn it back on intermittently unlike before. Two days ago I started hearing sparks and burning smell. This is a fire hazard buyer's beware will be reaching out to the developer of the unit to notify them as well.

I already have a whirlpool microwave over my range will this one fit the same brackets?

We cannot say for sure the brackets of the old model will fit the new one. Is this the same as YWMH31017HZ except it is fingerprint resistant stainless steel instead of just stainless steel?
