Rated 5 out of 5 by from Well designed and easy to assemble With the high price of lumber and limited availability of contractors, we decided to build a pergola from a kit and were attracted to the reasonable price of this Yardistry product. Right from the start we were impressed with the efficient packaging, high quality materials, clearly labelled parts and easy-to-follow instructions. The lumber was precision milled and free of cracks and chips; there were even a few extra pieces of screws and washers. It took us only a weekend to build it; we pre-assembled the beams and posts in the garage one day, and then we assembled it on the patio the next day. We can’t wait to start hosting patio parties when restrictions are lifted!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Some installation tips for buyers I found this to be an excellent, high-value product. I was able to install by myself into an exiting deck over the course of 2 days with a step stool. Here are my comments on installation: (1) manual is quite good - the very first step is a bit confusing for those not experienced with installing bolts - that could be improved with another diagram. (2) wood pieces are all labelled, and hardware identified on the bag (3) If you have a drill, you won’t have a problem with the innumerable screws. However, if you are an average purchaser you won’t have an easy way to tighten the many hex bolts and lag screws. I think Yardistry should include a socket for those bolts. (4) installing the trellises requires lots of repetitive measuring. I anticipated that by cutting two pieces of wood the length of those intervals, and used the wood pieces instead of a measuring tape to locate the pieces - saved me tons of time and awkward measuring on the step stool. Worth suggesting in the installation manual, or including two small pieces of wood to help the installer. (5) I’ve seen a couple of comments here about wanting a cover of some kind. I ordered one from coversandall, a US company, with grommets in it, and it worked great, and was relatively inexpensive. I attached the cover to the trellis top using hook and eye hooks. All in all a wonderful experience ... hope this helps! DHT

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor Quality, Very Disappointing Product I just received the pergola few days ago, and upon opening the package I was pretty disappointed with the poor wood finish of most of the pieces. Maybe I expected too much for the so called "pre-stained" lumber, but the wood surface is rough and looks completely untreated, and the colors of some connecting pieces are noticeably lighter/darker than the others. I thought I could just cope with it by sanding and re-staining the whole thing, then it comes the beam assembly.... the cut of the most connecting pieces are unique that they don't align properly when put together... I tried so hard to mix and match the 20+ pieces to get a better assembly but still ended up with many of beam assemblies in a bad shape. If it is only few pieces, I would think they are just defective parts, but then having so many of them makes me worried if it is a quality issue. I really hope I could just return this 300+lbs product during Covid, but most likely I will have to sand, stain, and wait another few weeks for replacement parts hoping they are not defective.

Easily a weekend job for one or two people with well written step by step instruction manual. All wooden pieces are sanded, water repellent treated and sanded and rounded edges. Great quality with attractive hardware.

If you want pictures you can email me and I will send. one post is twisted made it work. half the top rails and 6 under lines can be used to play hockey. The one that came out of the box doesn't look like the one in the Home Depot show room. Thanks

Perfect for our deck, we attached a roller shade and a removable sunsail! Worth the money! Tip, the instructions are overwhelming, but once you open the boxes it’s very organized and numbered.

Is this Western Red cedar or Yellow?

Yardistrys' answer is quite misleading. Search up the wood (Cunninghamia Lanceolata)... it's not Western Cedar, in fact, it's not even in the same family as cedar. Yardistry, how can you even claim "premium cedar" when you know full well it's a cheap Chinese wood that doesn't even resemble Cedar??

Does this have to be anchored to a wood deck? Wondering if wind would be a concern?

We put each post in a flower pot and filled with rocks on our stone patio. We have had some pretty crazy wind over the last year and it has not moved.

Does this need to be secured and fastened to the floor it sits on, or can I just assemble it directly on top of my composite deck?

Yes it should be fastened down.I used 3/4 inch x11/2 inch galvanized lag bolts. Drill a 3/8 inch pilot hole first

I think this will sink into the ground unless you put on pavers in each corner. Although it’s heavy mine blew over twice so it will need to be secured really well. It’s a really nice pergola

Is a building permit require for "Yardistry " 10ft x 12ft pergola in the City of Richmond BC?

I doubt it because this structure does not attach to any building or permanent structure besides attaching to a solid base. But do not know Richmond rules specifically.

Is there a way to download the manual? What are the specifications of the anchor bolts? If mounted on a deck, do you recommend having an additional piece of the decking board to anchor the bolt more firmly? Does this require professional help?

Specificatinos of anchor bolts: details not provided. Check with local regulations otherwise follow your gut. Mounting on a deck: We can't say without looking at your situation. Again, check with your local professionals. My son assembled and installed the pergola on pavers on our lawn, but he has worked professionally for several years. He has a lot of experience and knowledge. No idea if you can download the manual.
