Rated 2 out of 5 by from B.I.N2 Primer The fumes are very bad, enough to cause me to experience nosebleeds and I am not prone to them. Also the product does not self level when applying with a roller, the finish is pebbly.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Buy the Shellac Based I bought this because the shellac based primer was out of stock everywhere. It didn’t go on as smoothly and required an extra coat.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good wood primer Good wood primer, coated the wood nicely and I didn’t experience and bleed throws from the knots. Smell can be a little heavy depending on the size of room your in.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from No more brown. Had badly stained ceiling tile from chain smoker, took two coats but feel much better living in a smoke free enviroment.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Primer! Bin2 very quickly became my favourite Primer for certain jobs. There are lots of reviews on other sites from guys that questioned...why a different version of Bin? This soya-based product is quite a bit less expensive compared to the original so I tried it. I've used it on many MDF cabinet doors I've made to seal in any possible colour seepage and give me a good primed base. I was amazed at how well this primer sands after about 10-12 hours, absolutely awesome, just like an automotive primer. Beautiful white dust with no clogging of sandpaper. Although the company says to NOT thin this stuff, I found it thinned nicely with 10% Mineral Spirits (just stir well) and then sprayed on really nicely with my HVLP gun at about 28 PSI. There is definitely some off-gassing, but to me it was totally worth it! Great stuff, 2 coats prior to 2 coats of Behr Satin/Melamine Finish, Alkyd Enamel, (7900) gives a professional smooth finish. Good luck with your project!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great stuff!!! This primer sticks to everything!!! Easy to use, not at all thick like a typical oil, leaves a smooth finish and sands easy. Haven't tried it for stain blocking but used it on laminate cabinets and a pine dresser as well as shelving and it's tough a nails. Love BIN original and bin 2 doesn't disappoint either.

Is Zinsser Bin 2 good for priming MDF like Zinsser Bin (Shellac based) primer is?

Asked by: Tony
Yes it will work on mdf but it is alkyd based instead of shellac. It is thicker than the shellac and has a very strong odour for few days until it completely dries

what's the difference killer vs blocker?

Asked by: painter
Bin blocker is a synthetic shellac and Killer is an anti microbial latex primer that inhibits mold growth. BIN is thick and hard to sand as opposed to natural shellac which is thin and watery. Use the blocker if you are dealing with smoke or ink on the stained spots only. Blocker is good for general use in bathrooms where mold might grow, use blocker on the entire surface.

Will this product work on glass back splash in kitchen. They are dark brown now and want to paint them with white paint

Asked by: cattail2
Hi, Great question! For glass backsplash tiles, we recommend our Zinsser Bulls Eye 123 instead for maximum adhesion. We highly recommend a cleaner & greaser to prep the tiles as there is mostly likely a layer of oil and grease on them, even if unseen, and this would cause the primer to peel in the future if not thoroughly cleaned off.

I find the chemical smell quite strong and I do not require painting over it. How long will teh smell last for?

Asked by: lori0250
Hi, The dry primer film of our BIN 2 develops full adhesion after it cures in 7 to 10 days. Lower temperatures, higher humidity and the addition of tint will prolong dry and cure time. After this time, the coating should no longer be off gassing.
