Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good primer I find that this is a good primer when covering a uniform coloured surface with no heavy stains, examples would be pre-painted surfaces or new drywall. If you want to cover wood knots I would strongly recommend one of the other Zinsser primers (Zinsser Bin Primer Model: EB100040).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worth the cash, but read the remarks ...... I had very light greying of the drywall caused by mildew/mold. After lightly dry wiping the work area, I applied the BE123 and it covered the areas with no problem. I waited a few hours and reapplied a 2nd coat of the primer. Smell of paint was no problem, I did have a mask on because I was wiping down the moldy drywall earlier, but still, the smell was acceptable. Worked well for my situation, which was covering up mildew/mold caused by improper venting. Other situations will be different. cheers **** oh ya, I was so impressed with the product, I did the whole room with it; just being prudent

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great hiding primer Pros: Great Hiding, easy spreading, wonderful product for plaster, drywall, wood. Cons: OK at sealing. Could be a little better in this category when sealing metal that has accumulated some rust. It tends to allow bleed throughs of rust after a few months to a year or so.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Definitely a Bulls Eye Product performed as advertised, was easy to work with. No offensive odour and easy cleanup.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Terrible Primer This is the second time I have primed this coffee table. First time I thought the problem was my prep so I stripped it and got exactly the same result a second time. Paint drips off of the can, the finish is bumpy and it doesn’t cover well. I am going to have to sand it again and try another primer. Very disappointed.

I am painting over a bright red room, will one coat of this primer be enough or should I do two layers?

Asked by: annie00
Follow the label. Cleaning and prepping the walls, plus one coat of primer is sufficient. Two coats of finishing paint will be enough.

We’re currently renovating what the previous home owners used as a workshop into a spare bedroom. The walls had some marks on them so I used this primer, however the stains continue to leak through. Trouble is, we don’t know what the stains are. Ideas?

Asked by: Ardon12
Hi, Great question! If the water-based Bulls Eye 1-2-3 is not blocking the stains, it might be time to try an oil-based primer like our Zinsser Cover Stain. Test on one of the marks that is bleeding through. Apply a coat of the topcoat and observe if the stain continues to bleed through. If it doesn't, then continue to prime and topcoat the rest of the surface. If you'd like to discuss further, please do not hesitate reaching out to 1-800-387-3625 for additional assistance.

I am planning to paint over a piece of old furniture (50 years old perhaps?). It might be oil-based painting. Which primer should I use to cover the old paint? Also, I am planning to paint it with a water-borne, low gloss paint.

Asked by: sabrina
Hi sabrina, For wood with an old finish, we recommend our Zinsser Cover Stain Oil-Based Primer-Sealer instead. You can then use your water-borne low gloss paint as your final topcoat.

Hi Shemps, Yes, our Bulls Eye 123 is ideal for laminate surfaces like your kitchen cabinets. However, we still recommend giving your cabinets a good clean for maximum adhesion.

Hi there,  Can this product be used on MDF?  Our entry foyer has a closet made of MDF and the back of it serves as a wall for the living room.

Asked by: OnlytheOrly
Yes, although I use it to hide stains or on varnish. It is a little pricy to use as just a primer.
