Rated 3 out of 5 by from maybe not as good as it was I've used 123 for some time and had good experiences with it. The last can got shook at HD so it was mixed well and looked like fresh stock. When I opened it it had a skin stuck to the lid and mixing the paint with a stick found globs of dried paint in the bottom of the can. I did use it and it covered well, dried quickly, and took the top coat well.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Very thin If you were expecting this to cover over existing paint well it won't. Very disappointed

Rated 1 out of 5 by from No good. Doesn't coat well. Seems to defeat purpose of primer. Very hard to get primer to cover evenly. Even second coat had problem sticking. Home Depot recommended this brand but I think I wasted time and money with this.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Went on poor, rolled poor, looks poor I have never had paint go on like this. It went on both thick and thin somehow, and would pick back up on the roller if I dared go over the same spot in quick succession. I ignored it at first, but then noticed the primer looked like it was melting off the wall in places. I tried applying thick and thin coats to not avail. I am now trying to scrape off all the paint I can, and will have to sand the whole room. These walls were scrubbed clean and thoroughly dried before painting.

Asked by: Jeff
I don’t know about painting over this primer, but we recently painted over a chain link fence with Rustoleum (made for metal) flat black and it worked great.

We are building out a campervan. Thinking of applying this primer onto the bare metal, to prevent mould, mildew and rust, then adding XPS foam for insulation with an adhesive. Will this work for protecting the surface and also allow the foam to stick?

Asked by: Rhally46
Hi Rhally46, Yes, our Zinsser Bulls Eye 1-2-3 will work to protect the bare metal from mould, mildew, and rust. In regards to adhesion with the XPS foam; We recommend reaching out to the manufacturer to guarantee the foam will adhere to coatings like our water-based primer.

Can this primer be used to prime MDF sheets before applying paint on the MDF?

Asked by: Rahul
Hi Rahul, For MDF, we recommend our Zinsser Cover Stain instead. We recommend avoiding water based primers as the moisture may reactivate the glue in MDF sheets.

can i use this primer as ceiling paint?

Asked by: lisa
Hi lisa, Yes, you can use our Zinsser Bulls Eye 1-2-3 Water-Base Primer on your ceiling. However, it does still require a topcoat as it is not strong enough on it's own and will yellow over time.

Can this be tinted black and be used as the top coat over galvanized chicken wire?

Can this be tinted black and be used as the top coat over galvanized chicken wire?
Asked by: Jeff
We appreciate your interest, Jeff. While Rust-Oleum Zinsser Bulls Eye 1-2-3 Water-Based Primer can be tinted, it can only be tinted to off-white or pastel colors. Adding too much tint for a darker color will prevent proper drying. While this product can be used on galvanized surfaces, it must be topcoated with an opaque paint since it is a primer. This product can be topcoated with oil or water-based paints. Please keep in mind, our products should not be applied in areas where accidentally ingestion may occur. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 3

Will this primer adhere to galvanized metal?

Also, if it can adhere to galvanized metal, do I need to sand the surface first? I am looking to paint the inside of a galvanized water tub.
Asked by: Molibra
Thanks for reaching out. While Zinsser Bulls Eye 1-2-3 Water Based Primer can be applied to galvanized metal, it is not suitable for application inside a water tub, it is not designed to withstand water immersion. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 6
