Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good primer I find that this is a good primer when covering a uniform coloured surface with no heavy stains, examples would be pre-painted surfaces or new drywall. If you want to cover wood knots I would strongly recommend one of the other Zinsser primers (Zinsser Bin Primer Model: EB100040).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bulls eye 123 - Primer Excellent - There was a water mark on my dining room ceiling and this product sealed it and it never showed through.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worth the cash, but read the remarks ...... I had very light greying of the drywall caused by mildew/mold. After lightly dry wiping the work area, I applied the BE123 and it covered the areas with no problem. I waited a few hours and reapplied a 2nd coat of the primer. Smell of paint was no problem, I did have a mask on because I was wiping down the moldy drywall earlier, but still, the smell was acceptable. Worked well for my situation, which was covering up mildew/mold caused by improper venting. Other situations will be different. cheers **** oh ya, I was so impressed with the product, I did the whole room with it; just being prudent

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great hiding primer Pros: Great Hiding, easy spreading, wonderful product for plaster, drywall, wood. Cons: OK at sealing. Could be a little better in this category when sealing metal that has accumulated some rust. It tends to allow bleed throughs of rust after a few months to a year or so.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Definitely a Bulls Eye Product performed as advertised, was easy to work with. No offensive odour and easy cleanup.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Terrible Primer This is the second time I have primed this coffee table. First time I thought the problem was my prep so I stripped it and got exactly the same result a second time. Paint drips off of the can, the finish is bumpy and it doesn’t cover well. I am going to have to sand it again and try another primer. Very disappointed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from No sanding needed Amazing product, no sanding just clean, dry and paint

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Bad advice I used the white primer previously with no issues. I had to prime ceilings and they only had grey in stock...I asked the clerk if this would be OK to use for a white ceiling, she said ya, its good because you can see where you have painted...this is true but it took 3 coats of paint to hide the primer, where as with the white I could have gotten away with one coat...very aggravating...

Can this primer be used prior to epoxy my garage floor?

Asked by: Lilster
I would not use this product prior to epoxy on your garage floor.  We used the product to hide water stains on drywall.  Whenever I painted my garage floor, I pressure washed it first and thoroughly let it dry and I used standard alkyl floor paint.  Your epoxy paint is properly a superior product the standard floor paint.

I am painting over a bright red room, will one coat of this primer be enough or should I do two layers?

Asked by: annie00
I would start with one, it should work if you put a nice generous coat

Hello Some children wrote on interior drywall with sharpie markers. Will this cover the marker?

Asked by: ArtMike333
I’m not sure about that , but it is the best primer I’ve used. Covers old water stains and  marks that paint won’t hide by itself .

should I use sponge roller, low nap roller or brush to apply to get the smoothest finish over wood?  Some say sponge roller, but others say bubbles are a huge problem?

Asked by: Misswind
I used a low nap roller on a concrete floor. I did not have any problem with bubbles.

Can I use a paint sprayer to apply this? Can it be thinned with water for ease of application?

Asked by: Circlesister
Hi Circlesister, Yes, our Bulls Eye 123 can be applied with an airless or conventional sprayer. If thinning is necessary add no more than 10 fl. oz. (296 ml) clean water per gallon and stir thoroughly. Note that thinning the primer may affect its stain-blocking properties.

Can this primer be used on tiles in a bathroom shower? The only product I have seen so far that is a waterborn bondin primer is Insl-X and it is not availble in Ontario. I would like to paint my shower walls to clean than up rather than replacing.

Asked by: Anonymous
Hi NancyWalker, Our Zinsser Bulls Eye 1-2-3 will not hold up in showers and will peel away from the surface. For tiles in a bathroom shower, we recommend our Specialty Tub & Tile Refinishing kit.

what is the best primer to use over oil based paint when top-coating with a water based paint?

Asked by: dethrayne
I have used Bulls Eye 1-2-3 Primer on pretty much everything - oil-based, water-based, wood sap, knots, smoke, wood filler...and it has never disappointed. It covers everything and keeps it from bleeding through to the new topcoat every time!

I intend to paint the risers and wall string of my prefinished oak staircase. Is zineer bullseye 123 primer good to cover and adhere to the finished surfaces before painting.

Asked by: Neil53
Hi Neil53, Since oak can bleed tannins with water based products, we do not recommend our Bulls Eye 123 for your project. After cleaning the surface really well, scuff sanding any smooth areas with 220-grit, and removing the dust afterwards, you can prime with our Zinsser Cover Stain instead.
