I use this product periodically in my painting business and on my own home and it does a very good job of sealing most wood knots, but there are times where it hasn't performed as well as expected on surfaces that are exposed to excessive direct sunlight.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Primer Money Can Buy I'm a contractor and I've used every primer there is. I'm convinced this is the best Primer money can buy for multiple reasons. It sticks to anything, covers anything, and levels better than any primer. I've sprayed, rolled and brushed it. no brush strokes whatsoever. expensive but by far the best!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This stuff is awesome! We had a loser drywall guy use spoiled mud when he re-textured our ceilings. He kept telling us the smell would go away in a week or two. IT DID NOT and our house smelled like vomit. We tried everything and were living in chaos in the meantime. Short of ripping out our ceilings and getting new ones, we tried this and it worked perfectly! We thought it was expensive but after it worked so well we don't feel that way. Other people online complained about the smell of the product. Really? Would you rather have vomit? It smelled like Bailey's to us and was strong for a few hours and then went away completely along with the vomit smell. Thank you for this product! I wish we had known about this sooner.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product I made the mistake of using a old can of paint, I had in the basement, it was almost a full can, it seemed fine till a week after it dried, a strong ammonia smell emitted really bad, I tried a few primers, not that they were a bad product they just didn’t keep the smell from bleeding threw the paint, washing the walls with vinegar works but the smell comes back. Used Zinsser Bin Ultimate Primer stain blocker and could tell right away my problem was solved, a little watery and messy but it is painting. It thickens with air after you pour it in the tray goes on nice strong smell but better than the problem, Great Product Won’t use anything but this in the future. Never thought I would get rid I’d the rancid paint smell. Will never use old paint again Thank You Zinsser..

Rated 1 out of 5 by from No what expected I was expecting a clear material to be used under a dark paint. White will work but will require extra coat(s) of paint.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Stain blocking with BIN BIN shellac based primer works really well for blocking stain except for soft wood knots such as in pine. It will appear to have worked but in a year or two the knots will bleed through. To prevent this spot prime the knots with silver paint such as Rustoleum aluminum paint.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Ceramic Tile Primer? Can this be used on ceramic tile in prep for painting? I’ve read the reviews saying it’ll stick to “anything” and won’t come off. If this is true, I need to purchase this ASAP!

I've install new R2i Millwork PVC wainscot panels and moldings, and is pre-finished (no need to paint). I would like it to match the same "white" as the rest of the room. Will this primer adhere to PVC plastic?

    Asked by: renovator
Hi Renovator, For PVC plastic, our Zinsser Bulls Eye 123 is highly recommended.

Can I use this primer for metal sliding doors?

    Asked by: Sylbarlow
Hi Sylbarlow, Our Zinnser BIN can be applied to metal surfaces as long as the sliding door is inside. Our BIN primer does not hold up well to moisture buildup.

Is this paint oil base?  It says shellac and I’m not familiar with that name.  Just need to know if I need varsol to clean brushes and rollers.

    Asked by: Sylbarlow
Hi Sylbarlow, You will need to wash your application tools in a solution of 1-part ammonia and 3-parts water immediately after use. If product has dried on your tools, soak tools overnight in a solution of equal parts ammonia and water and scrub clean with a stiff brush.

Is this primer suitable for laminate wood paneling in a living room and bedrooms?

    Asked by: Christine
Hi Christine, Our Zinsser BIN Primer is suitable for laminate wood paneling in a living room and bedrooms. That being said, there is usually a coating on the laminate. We recommend a good cleaning with water and ammonia, a light scuff sand with 220-grit, and remove the sanding dust prior to painting. We hope this new information is helpful.

Will BIN cover shella civered brass? It was great on the shellac wall paneling in the basement. I have some brass tables I want to paint matte black. These things are 30 years old but in great shape.

    Asked by: Lainie
Yes, BIN can be applied to clean, dry brass. Zinsser Cover Stain can also be used.

Can I use this product to prime (followed by paint) bathroom laminate counter and cabinets? ( trying to avoid sanding process!)

    Asked by: FR09
Zinsser BIN is sensitive to moisture and may crack in humid environments like bathrooms. Zinsser Bulls-Eye 123, or Zinsser Cover Stain would make excellent choices.

Yes the existing colour of the ceramic tile will be primed and completely covered. The finished primed coat will be white and can either be left this way or painted over top with a latex paint colour of your choice. Hope this helps.
